The word "Niagara" is derived from the Iroquois Indian word "Onguiaahra" meaning "the strait"
Niagara is very young river, only 12,000 years old! Goat Island between American Falls and Canadian "Horshoe" Falls was formed only 500 years ago…

It is a shot of American Falls.

Even if winter is cold, the tremendous volume of water (500—600 m³/sec) never stops flowing, however, the falling water and mist create ice formations along the banks of the falls and river.
