I took this photo on the first morning of 2000 in New York City. It was a very beautiful morning and the early morning sun was just hitting the Empire State Building. It is not quite sharp enough and I know it is often photographed, but I thought it was a nice moment.

The dizzying heights of New York is what I feel. A dramatic shot. The framing of the Empire State with these other two buildings in varying states of shadow is great. It makes the Empire State seem taller and sleeker than it is. The blues of the sky add to that, especially how it changes tone with the light. Nicely done. However, the image has some dust on it. From a scanner? It also seems to be too compressed. At 57k it is quite small. You can go up to 200k. But still, a great angle and it was a nice moment as you say. Definitely worth a repost, I think.

Great angle. Very interseting angle. A pity there's a lack of focus but it doesn't matter. I like very much the Empire State building and this shot enhances its greatness.

Excellent point of view and a nice composition in spite of the technical shortcomings. I attempted a workshop, but couldn't get rid of the mess in the building on the left. Following Paul's critique, could you try scanning again?

Your point of vue is in fact very interesting. I agree wiht Pamastro on techical détails like dust and compression.
I did a workshop just to see if something could be done.

The large view disappointed me as the thumbnail attracted me... So I did a workshop to enhance the picture (I love the framing). But next time, clean the picture and the scanner before ;-)

i like how this is frmaed between the two other buildings. Maybe add a bit of contrast or curves to help pull hte ESB out a bit more at the top where there is clouds or smog that kinda dull the building a bit. deepen the sky blue a bit more as well as some USM might help. good phot and also has the ability to be even more I think.

Great building, great aimge. Somehow I can feel the morning here. Yes it is soft, but the impact still remains.

this may not be so sharp but obviously a very special POV.the view is nicely seen between those shadows, and like a pointing arrow indeed.

Nice shot, I like the geometry although the right side is maybe too dark. The light on the Empire State Building is giving really an idea of the ambient, with a light morning mist.

A good reason for taking a picture is to use a memorable date. Your POV and perspective is good and dramtic
nanauhauer (761) 2006-07-08 19:45
this isn1t a sharp photo but it's so nice. You got a good POV. The Empire State Building is a great example of good archtecture and you found a nice angle.

interesting picture, I like the POV and vertical format, the angle is nice and shows the height of the building properly. I agree that it is not quite sharp, nevertheless this is a good image.
out of smileys today.

Light contrast is too strong and there are problems with sharpness, but the composition is very nice and I really like it... also that remarkable date you took that picture...

very nice composition.nice pov.
i like the lighting that make a very dramatic shadow.good seeing.

Downtown picture are hard to do specially with the low morning sun as you may have a whole building dashing in the sun while the next one is in almost complete or partial obscurity. I experienced the same problem in downtown Montréal. Still, your composition is interesting and the main subject is lighted but a bit blurred. TFS
Happy New Year

Don't worry about the sharpness - the ultra-sharp digital images we so many of these days are linked, by that very fact, to their time. Although this shot may have imperfections, it is probably down to these that it reveals a sort of timeless quality - it could probably have been taken any time since this building was erected.
Also, interesting and spectacular composition.

This is a great POV of the Empire State Building. I like the diagonal lines formed by the adjacent buildings. The workshops are also useful.

Very nice composition. You used the lateral buildings well to frame your subject.

a beautiful picture of illusionary figure of the Empire State Building,
morning light and blueish air are making very cheerful ambience in this view,
the light and shadow are also making vivid contrast in this scene,
this morning atmosphere feels very comfortable to my sensations,
thank you for your excellent shot,
