On Third Avenue, there's a fun store called Dylan's Candy Bar. Inside you can find not only 7,000 different kinds of candies and chocolates, but also candy-themed housewares, clothes, and jewelry. There's also a cafe where you can buy candy-inspired cocktails or have some cupcakes and ice cream. Birthday parties often take place there.
I always pass this store on the way to my sister's place, and I love to stop inside and see all of the colors. There are giant statues of lollipops and chocolate bunnies, as well as furniture made to look like candy, and this staircase with all kinds of candy underneath the steps.
This little girl was definitely excited about her visit. :-)

It's dynamic shot and that's a great yummy sweetie shop Brenda! I'm as attracted by the vibrant colorful display in this shot as I would be by the flooring's jumble of multi candy colours. A great example of the sort of shot that often gets overlooked, lovely how the little cutie makes all the diff strikingly stands out with excellent feeling of movement too. Brilliant comp, and oh so nice bit of reflection there, it's real cool shot and pleasant exposure. I love toffee apples but my teeth dont ......
Super image, TFS

Hello Brenda, I can imagine the joy of kids in this candy shop. Of course, if the parents allow them to eat candy's. It is not good for healthy teeth and sugar is better to avoid so my (poor?) sons never got candies and even grandparents didn't gave them any. In result, they are adult and had never needed to go to the dentist.
But great place for photos. Well done and brings smile.

A very fine picture of this little child, running up the stairs. I also enjoy the pattern of the flooring here, it looks very much like a design we had in the eighties at the flooring producer I worked for all my life. It was a vinyl carpeting, designed by the Swedish design guru, Sigvard Bernadotte. Noone ever bought it...

I always enjoy those photos that are shot from the hip, so to speak. Street photography is my favourite genre and even though this is indoors I is of the same style. This is fun with the candy steps in the fg and the little girl in her candy coloured clothes.

I always appreciate how you produce fine photos out of everyday situations. The light that you capture on the stairs announces the candy and the excited girl so well.
All the best,

The whole shop is exciting!
The little girl adds a scenario.
I wonder if she is trying to step on pictures of her favourite sweet.
Great leads, reflections and colours.
I can just imagine all these ladies, pursuing diets, trying to stop themselves from entering the shop!!

I was attracted and slightly puzzled by this picture when looking at the thumbnail. Now I understand the parallel lines in the foreground. It's a very clever composition and this girl suits the picture perfectly with her red and pink clothes. I wonder if this was a spontaneous shot or if you waited patiently for the right child at the right moment.

Its like the Wonka factory for the modern age! I've never heard of such a place, and you chose a great view to take this fine photo, I am sitting here seeing what types of candy I can recognize in the stairs. Fascinating place, thanks for sharing your knowledge of it!
All the best

What a wonderful scene, so full of the joy and innocence of childhood and a literal translation of the phrase "like a kid in a candy shop". Interesting that you use the term "candy", whilst Australians use "lollies" and Brits "sweets". Interesting to note the difference, despite the common language.
Excellent perspective and light management under what looks to be challenging conditions.

I've been anxiously awaiting a new "Worldcitizen" picture to pop up on the TE pages, until then, I'll suffice with the bounty you still have available. :) I thought I had already left my mark on this one, but apparently not!?
Just like a kid in a candy store...wait, it is!! lol There couldn't be a better figure to have for this shot, the childlike enthusiasm is palpable...as well it should be when your all hopped up on sugar, right? :) Even as an adult, this makes me smile widely...and frankly, I'm a bit jealous too, as I have quite the sweet tooth. A fun and happy image which tantalizes the senses. Hope all has been well. Take good care.
Friendly wishes from out West,

Excellent snapshot. High angle viewpoint with the view down the stairs to the small girl is fabulous. All in very good light, well balanced colors.

Ooowo delicious place :)
It seems a FAO store but with candies. Love it. Another place to visit in next trip. Baddly I don't know when I will return to NY, probably our next trip to US will be Chicago or Vegas.

Good title and very nice photo. This is very interesting report from so sweet place. Today I don't like candy but I can imagine the children's joy. It reminds me the M&M's store, I have seen it somewhere in NYC too.
Best wishes from warm sunny Ural,

The shop would be a paradise not just for kids but for people like me as well, who are 'fans' of chocolates. I liked the way you've composed...with our vision running along the stairs to catch the excited girl running up..
macjake (53902) 2014-06-12 9:47
yes, its great to be back :)
thanks for checking in on my gallery!
Um...when we met up again in Manhattan or in Brooklyn, you're going to have to take Tosca and I here! Seriously! lol
We both love candy and chocolates :) and this store looks like so much fun as I bet it brings back memories as a child hunting for these treasures.
excellent post of NYC, very unique and yet cultural.
see you around
batalay (35043) 2014-06-20 11:32
The depth of field is first rate here, allowing the details of the foreground and the background to show up. It's a rather busy patten of rings, worms and sharks, it seems. Of course, the child ascending the staircase adds immensely to the composition, especially where the theme is candy.
I saw that you too commented on the spectacular shot of Maracaná Stadium by Eleni Mavrandoli. Only on Trekearth would you see exotic, topical and high quality photos like this.
Have a good weekend,

Great observational shot, I can feel this joy of this child, very well done
mjw364 (7004) 2014-07-03 6:20
A fun and colourful shot that makes great use of the angles to create lines and that child is placed so perfectly in the frame. Excellent composition.
Just goes to show too - the streets of new york are paved with sugar not gold!
