While out on another one of my aimless wandering excursions, I noticed this downtown scene, residential apartments…or so I believe, side by side with this hulking glass and steel skyscraper. Although generic in appearance, I really liked the juxtaposition of building elements and color.
Nothing particularly noteworthy about this shot, but hopefully it will appeal to those who enjoy architecture, in sort of an abstract manner. I wish there was something interesting to relate, but there’s really nothing more to it, just a simple observation.
Special thanks to Krzysztof (krzychu30) for giving this a mild HDR finish to bring out the detailing.
Thanks for stopping by.

une très bonne composition, un cadrage intéressant mettant en opposition deux époques d'architecture différente.
C'est bien fait, la façade de verre crée de bons effets.

do you notice the 3D effect on the middle left?
the way the glass building juts out at us just left of the middle...thats really cool.
its exactly why i love architecture photos, you can play with the lines and create cool perspectives.
looking at this really makes me want to head back to NYC, especially for the bridges alone! I'm totally pissed at myself for not capturing more bridge and sky scraper shots! Oh well, what can you do!
see you around

this is a wonderful arrangement of elements, dynamic, elegant and rhythmical and working on several levels. There's an attractive and intriguing juxtaposition of architectures, geometrical patterns, textures, colours philosophies. All of them work in a delightful and challenging way in the eyes and mind of the viewer. I like very much the colours, details and reflections brought out by the light and the treatment Krzysztof and you employed. Congratulations and thank you!
It would be really great if you ever visited Leros, I'm sure you'd enjoy it but it will probably seem like a different planet compared to the place you live or the places you've been to:)
All the best, have a lovely Sunday,

Hello again Jason,
I really like this kind of photo. Combining different styles of architecture is fun, especially when you get some glass windows that include reflections. :-) I like that the entire frame is filled with buildings, and the shorter ones have nice lighting on them that brings out their colors.
npecanhuk (74878) 2014-03-16 11:33
Very attractive architecture, with beautiful composition enhancing the existing different styles in that city!
Colors, sharpness and exposure are excellent too!
TFS - congrats,

un insieme di architetture e classiche, tra colori vivaci e vetri a specchio in un mix piacevole e interessante.
subhendu_bagchi (26089) 2014-03-16 12:20
a very good architectural photo here. Your minimal composition is very interesting and eye catching. Excellent sharp details and fine depth. Superb presentation with vibrant colours. Tfs.

Skyscrapers have such possibilities with their different styles and different materials; that is noticeable in this fine shot! The colours and styles of the older building grab immediate attention but, then, you notice the reflections behind them and a very ghostly skyscraper appears! It flickers across the corner of the new skyscraper and is so very different from those smooth, angular lines of the building on the left!
TE has certainly upped my interest in buildings.
Of course, living in the countryside, I only ever see structures like this when I am on holiday, or sharing them here.
My warm regards,
chrislo (4155) 2014-03-16 13:20
You have found a good combination of old and new architectural styles and designs. I like the tight framing as it adds dynamics to the composition and emphasizes the graphic dimension. The colours and textures work wonderfully well here. I also like the contrast between the uniformity of the modern and the timeless aesthetics of the classic. Perfect viewpoint to emphasize the contrast. Well done.
holmertz (51216) 2014-03-16 13:31
This is a graphically superb photo where you have balanced the various architectural elements and the different colors perfectly. I ususally keep my camera near the ground, looking for interesting life in the streets, but I love when others find these kinds of fascinating cityscapes high above. I'm impressed by the perfect clarity and colors.

I wrote you in e-mail how much I love such views,so let me repeat myself once again:)I love it!one of the reasons, why I could visit USA every year(or even often).
This is magnificent juxtaposition of glass and brick architecture and brilliant composition.Your idea to close-up the scene was superb and gave the image stronger and better emphasized urban character.
More of such pictures please!!!
Have a nice sunday

Hello Jason, Sergei had a red facade, a I see here also one. These walls of galss are the wonderful mirrors and give fine effects. Simple but nice observation. Good quality of ten years old shot.
WARM regards MAlgo

Take care of walking looking up, what everybody do while walking in NY
Here you catched a good mix of architecture, old and brand new at the back with some interesting reflections
Like the electrical lights in some windows, a good subject for a capture
Bon début de semaine, sans Coca Cola et avec beaucoup d'exercice

I love juxtaposition shots like this one, Jason - it must be so weird to live in one of the low buildings here (and I imagine the top floors are all apartments there). A great example of modern city living, with a nice perspective and cropping. Thanks!
mirosu (16041) 2014-03-16 19:55
You have created outstanding architectural photo with excellent details. I like the four major aspects in this photo; the nice view up, excellent tight crop allowing to view all nice details, the beautiful reflections and the excellent capture of two different architecture styles.
Very well done.

Hello Jason - Nicely seen and well composed. I too like the juxtaposition of architectural styles and building materials. The reflections are well managed and the colour palette attractive. Your shot shows quite clearly the evolution of a city. Nice one!

Hi dear Jason,
Beautiful architectural shot with nice contrast of old and modern building. Excellent framing and splendid reflections. Well done!
Have a nice week my friend, today I'll walk at the sea! :)

Je suis un grand amateur de ce genre de photos très urbaines. J'aime la compression de l'image qui est du plus bel effet, la rencontre aléatoire des lignes droites, le graphisme et le rendu des couleurs.
Noel_Byrne (30499) 2014-03-17 5:52
That building looks truly ginormogantic! Once again, my envious eyes look at these kinds of modern towers and make me wish we had a few in Dublin. This capture shows the kind of creative photo you an make when you combine the new and the old together like this. It almost seems as if you were taking a portrait of the glass tower and the two red and yellow houses just jumped up and photo bombed the shot :)
Happy St Patricks day! I'm watching the parade on tv in Dublin now, and there is such huge representation from the stats.
ikeharel (69855) 2014-03-17 8:04
New-York is known to have an intriguing archi. styles, and you anaged a nice combination of modern and older, jason.
Fine reflection of the many glass windows, checkered structure added wonderfull texture.
tyro (24386) 2014-03-18 10:34
First of all, I love your note because it just reflects exactly what I do - wander around aimlessly! In fact, here's something for you - there's a wonderful old Scots word "stravaig" which means to wander around aimlessly just taking in the view, the sounds, etc. It can be either a noun or a verb - so you can "stravaig" or you can go for a "stravaig". Quite a nice word and it might just go down rather well in Arizona! Have a look here!
Anyway, Jason, this a wonderfully powerful image on account of its simple and strong composition and the fine contrasts in colours and lighting. Lovely bold lines too. A lovely shot with fine light and colours, perfect exposure and exquisite details and sharpness.

Just a something new in your gallery. Superb! It brings me back to the streets of Manhattan again. I really like this psychedelic 3D composition with so artistic reflection. But I don't know how this photo was looked before HDR management.

Nice capture from NY with great graphical effect and symbolism ; the competition of modern and classical architectures !

A brilliant capture! I like the contrast between the older buildings and the modern, shiny high rise. The reflections are spectacular.

Whenever I'm in NYC, I like capturing these kind of shots. I just liked it how these layers are flattened into one photograph. Nice colors, reflections and play of lines.
Cricri (117879) 2014-03-21 7:36
Hi Dear Jason
Un cadrage intéressant par les reflets et le contraste des bâtiments moderne et ancien, bien vu et réaliser
adores (45029) 2014-04-14 15:50
I like this kind of contrasts, it's curious to see the differences between the buildings, side by side. I like the way you framed them and the reflections also add to the composition. There's so much to see in the cities if we keep our eyes open.
