This photo was taken in Rockefeller Center. Most people choose to show a view with the golden statue of Prometheus, and I also have some of those in my gallery, but this time I wanted to mention some other details about the area.
Some tourists don't realize that there is a whole underground "town" beneath street level. It's called the Concourse, and it's a very busy place for locals and tourists alike. On this lower level there is a post office, over 20 shops, and 20 places to eat. Most of them are casual dining spots, but two are fine dining: Rock Center Café, and The Sea Grill, (shown in this photo). These finer restaurants are on opposite sides of the ice skating rink, and they have large windows facing the ice. You can have a nice (and expensive!) meal, while looking at Prometheus and watching the skaters go by.
At lunch time, office workers stream out of the buildings above and into the Concourse without ever having to go outside. It is connected to all of the main buildings that make up Rockefeller Center, as well as the subway station with the same name.
It's just a simple photo, but one that captures the mood of this spot. :-)

great post from NYC!
as with most of your photos, i've learnt something new today :)
I have to say, even though Tosca and I have spent 6 or 7 days in NYC, I now feel like we spend 6 or 7 seconds in NYC!!! So much to see in this great city!
cute photo, interesting to hear about the restaurants, and the 'underground' and its fun to see the shadows of skaters in the windows.
very cool and original photo from New York

This is a fine photo, quite amusing as well, the kind of picture that stimulates my imagination. I could see it as a symbol of the class society (the little girl "living on the wrong side of tracks", i.e. the large windows), or different pleasures in life, or young vs. old, etc.
It certainly tells me something about NYC, and the little green girl looks very nice as she is swirling by on the white ice.

I like this composition a lot, it creates a very strong graphical impact of the line of the ice against the dark grey of the restaurant. As well as that, it’s a very nice subject to post, it must be a pleasant place to sit and enjoy a nice meal and watch the world skate by!
All the best

I really like this one, it was a good idea to step away from the traditional and get a shot that conveys an entirely different look and feel to the ice rink all together. How great too that you have the "Sea Grill" included, as I would assume most people immediately associate the sea with a warmer climate.
A truly delightful moment of this solitary young girl simply enjoying her activity of ice skating, seemingly all alone in her own little world, but right within plain view of the restaurant patrons. A marvelous concept and smart composition. Just enough blur as well to aid in the sensation of motion. An all around smile for this one! Still sunny and warm here, 'tis the season! :)

Indeed a very different position here but the little green girl is mush more pleasant to view than the golden God. There is also a very good contrast between the "free" girl and the eating persons, inside the glass windows. The windows, and particularly the red railing, provide a very good diagonal in the composition.

a nice shot with interesting contrats. The little girl looks like she have big fun compared with "the boring adults". It is also a clear diagonal between the white ice and the darker parts from the restaurant.
We have a skating area in central Stockholm as well, very popular both among skaters and spectators:)
Have a nice evening.

It may be "just a simple photo," but it is very elegant. First, as you said, it captures the mood. Second, it is a nice contrast between physical activity symbolized by the little girl skating and leisurely (in)activity symbolized by the casual diners. Then there are the layers of colors. What I find intriguing is the name of the restaurant located up top in the middle, like a title for the photo.
A very pleasant photo to look at, TFS!
