Photographer's Note

Bryant Park, in midtown Manhattan, is not a very big park, but it has a lot of different activities.

During the winter months, as you can see, there is an ice skating rink called Citi Pond, as well as a seasonal restaurant called Celsius. On the left you can see the two-story white structure where the restaurant is situated. From late October until early January there is also a large outdoor holiday market with lots of unique gifts. A Christmas tree is also set up, and you can see it on the right.

In the spring and summer, the area where the skating rink is located is converted back to a large grass lawn, where outdoor movies are shown, and people can sunbathe and relax.

Year-round there are free classes, such as juggling and yoga, three restaurants, a lovely carousel, an open-air library, and places to play ping pong and petanque. In the background, you can also see the main branch of the New York Public Library, which sits directly in front of the park.

Hi Brenda, I see that not only in Rockefeller Center there is ice skating rink. Must be fun indeed. Do you also skate there?

This is a nice picure with a good atmosphere, lots of people to watch and interesting surroundings. The light is good and the reflections in the ice are discreet but attractive.

a cool park it is too :-)
been there a few times and as you say it has something all year round. Never been in the summer months mind you but i suppose its proximity to the library would make it a relaxing spot :-)

So much fun to do that in a place like that! I love skiing and can do that fairly well, but ice-skating... I would need some more practicing! I really enjoy this picture!
Sharpness, exposure, colors, horizontal format, black & white borders, chosen pov and composition truly pleased me!

it looks very nice with ice skating in central NYC and i guess it is quite popular among tourists and the locals. We have a similar ice skating rink in central Stockholm by the way. Sharp and clear shot and a good contribution to TE, well done!

Despite its size, Bryant Park is one of my favorite spots in Manhattan because there's always something different going on. This is a great example, and a great illustration. Good action shot of the skaters! And of course the Public Library, not far away...

Hi Brenda,
Bryant park is a small green oasis in the middle of the big metropolis, a really charming and calm place, where people can rest, relaxing sitting in one of its benches.
The aspect of this park in winter and the Christmas atmosphere they are fantastic, and you have caught them in all its brilliance.
I like the dynamism and the vitality that the skaters add to the scene.

Hello Brenda,

I love the notes you write for your photos of New York. I would love to see the best of them distilled and organized in a book on New York. In the digital age when we rarely print photos, yet alone compile albums of photos, we started creating private PhotoBooks, replete with text. From our travels in the last couple of years I've put together several PhotoBooks, using the services of a company called Snapfish. I am going to share with you (at your email address) one of these books. You have to register, to see see one of my books, but I think you photos and accompanying notes would make superb photobooks.

I was in NY in November at 40 st and Park av, so very near of this place, so, so sorry I missed the place and the restaurants while visiting the Library or shopping at Best Bay

A nice picture from this oasis in the concrete jungle. Very interesting to read about the different use of the park during the different seasons. During my stay in NYC I passed this park walking towards Grand Central Terminal, so I know exactly where it`s located. The Christmas tree is a nice addition to this fabulous NYC-scene. You're capturing well this place by a good composition and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see and know the versatility in the season of this park as you note polite. It's impressive in ice skating rink which people are enjoying, the restaurant with two-story and winter tree in this season. And, the skyscraper in back teaches that this park is one oasis in a big city.
