As i was reviewing my gallery to choose a photo upload today, i came across this one - and for some reason the story of David and Goliath came to me.
Looking at the small tiny rowboat along the bottom, then looking up at the large skyscrapers, i felt the huge contrast of size. I don't know about you, but i feel as if the people in the rowboat appear to be so insignificant. The towering buildings and large trees dominate the scene, and i didn't realize the impact until i reviewed my gallery. What do you guys think?
This is obviously taken in Central Park, and i chose this photo today also because Brenda (worldcitizen) uploaded a rowboat shot from Central Park aswell very recently. Thanks for the inspiration Brenda.
The weekend is almost upon us! Thanks for looking.

What a fine title for your shot! It's a very clear shot too but I can't see that either of the guys in the rowing boat has a sling does he?
This is a very pleasing photograph with lovely colours and soft lighting. The detail and clarity are superb with incredible detail visible throughout. Excellent composition too.

An agreeable composition with good colours and sharpness. I like the layered effect and the layout of the architecture with its contrasting styles. The people in the rowing boat give a good idea of scale.

Hello Craig! Great view of city scene, great 'low' POV, very good framing and composition! Excellent perspective! Great light management, excellent choice of frame with great contrasts!Excellent choice of note and moment with a boat in scene!Bravo!

Rowing on the lake...the macjake version. ;-) This is one of my favorite spots, so of course I love the view. These are some of the same trees that were full of color in my recent shot. I like your inclusion of the small, rustic shelter on the right, too. As always your execution is fabulous. Thanks for the "shout out" in your note. :-)

Hi Craig, there is indeed a big difference from this good perspective between the boat and its occupants and large trees in the park and the buildings, a good shot with clarity and depth, a good and interesting job well done, congratulations. Good afternoon and happy weekend.
Best regards from Andalucia.

I like the way you saw N.Y., you have captured the big city so well, always under your personal POV, avoiding the typical views. Thanks Craig!

beautiful image of New York in a perspective is not known, as always great quality and originality.
sacimar (28329) 2011-11-19 12:05
this is a well-known building, I like your title and the composition with the detail of the lonely boat, it´s a different one,
delpeoples (59684) 2011-11-19 18:54
Another good title, yeah I guess you're right about it. The boaters certainly give us a sense of size and scale here. Although I've never been to the US before not least NY, I knew this was Central Park even before enlarging your photo. The greenery against the architecture make an awesome duet. Thanks for sharing and I hope you're not working this weekend.
mkamionka (39805) 2011-11-19 23:56
very famous view, high quality of presentation. It would be a perfect postcard. So this is definitely something for me.
I like very much the couple in the boat -it adds a nice touch to the scene.
Royaldevon (42649) 2011-11-20 3:11
Your title affected the way that I viewed this shot.
My first impression was of the small boat suddenly being aware of large, fierce enemies towering from the covering of the trees. In that context, it certainly does give quite a shock! How unusual to have a shot with a story!
In the wider context, a well composed shot with all the elements well positioned and with a fine dof for such a long distance shot.
Have a good day,
pablominto (53746) 2011-11-20 23:57
Central Park makes a fine rural feeling and a strong contrast to the highrise in the back!
The row boat however small draws attention, and the shack on the lakeside is a strong contrast to the asphalt jungle not far away...
A well balanced composition with good details!
yquem46 (38752) 2011-11-21 0:00
As a matter of fact the little boat on the lake in central Park is quite at contrast with the skyscrapers at the FG
Fortunately it is protected by the greenery in between !
Have a nice day
josepmarin (58359) 2011-11-21 1:37
a good choice of the framing to combine effectively the greenery of Central Park, with the buildings in background, that they seem to be born between the trees.
The size of the persons in the rowboat is insignificant in the middle of this natural and urban landscape at the same time.
For this reason, the title is very suitable, I agree with you.
A beautiful work, my friend.
PS: I feel honored because you add my last photo to your favorites list.

Heureusement que New-York possède Central Park, véritable poumon de la ville, et je crois que ce parc demeurera. En arrière plan, les méga structures urbaines de la ville sont impressionnantes.
kordinator (22169) 2011-11-23 1:14
I like a lovely sky over fantastic buildings.
Very nice street.
Nice perspective,excellent natural colors.
Bout on the water is fantastic details.
J_Burke (1285) 2011-11-29 2:39
I have to agree with you on this one, there is so much impact in this picture because of the inclusion of the people in the boat and a great sense of scale. There is also the contrast of those two people surrounded by a seemingly natural environment from their point of view yet those huge buildings tower above right next door, its almost the battle between man and nature right there....technically very well done too, great clarity, saturation and exposed so well. Thanks for sharing.

Oh, so familiar place for me! We were here with Brenda on the Spetember TE-meeting too. This park is her favorite place.
Thanks for memories, excellent photo from NYC.
