Was the former home of the National Biscuit Company
At 9th Avenue and 15th Street, is located in a former Nabisco factory, specifically in this factory was where was invented the famous Oreos.

The old factory has become a beautiful office building, on the lower floor is situated the market where you can buy all sorts of things and stop for lunch or dinner.

History
At the National Biscuit Company complex, begun in the 1890's in what is now west Chelsea, the ovens baked everything from Saltines to Oreos.

In the 1990's, the investor Irwin B. Cohen organized a syndicate to buy the principal National Biscuit buildings, from Ninth to 11th Avenue and 15th to 16th Street.
Over the next several years Mr. Cohen reinvented the older complex, between Ninth and 10th Avenue, re-renting the upper floors to an emerging group of technology companies.

On the ground floor, he and his designers, Vandeberg Architects, created a long interior arcade of food stores, now a well-known destination in west Chelsea - an area that itself is oven-hot these days, with million dollar lofts being created in the onetime leftover factory district.
To walk through the Chelsea Market is to stroll through a sort of postindustrial theme park, carefully festooned with the detritus of a lost industrial culture, interspersed with food stores and restaurants.

Each time I was in New York I manage to visit this market, so plenty of all kind of food, from cheese to vine ( Argentine wines can be found along with Napa Valley’s), from lobsters to meat or if it’s tea time, delicious just baked scons
There are formal restaurants, take away places and tables to seat freely and enjoy your food, take photos or relax
This corner show without words the ambiance of the special market

Another excellent NY daily life shot, Maria - the bright neon sign is dominant here, but the really interesting action is going on around it in the expressions and poses of these distinct visitors. Really fascinating note, too, about the hidden history of this building. Thanks!

a good reportage shot this 'special market' with the ceiling to penetrated a lot of piping.As i understand and the atmosphere there must be suffocating.

Hello Maria,
The neon sign is a superb eye-catcher which is also very nicely reflected in the floor and the window. The rest of the view is pretty gloomy but offers us some very interesting sights of people and postures. You have composed this well, with people on both sides facing inwards, and the exposure is excellent.

Hi Mary. Everyday. You've seen this scene well. Everything looks realistic and authentic. The neon sign with the word wine is like a promise. But it does not seem very comfortable here. However, market scenes are interesting. If I'm traveling somewhere in the world, I'm also always on the markets.

Lovely special ambience and warm feel to this place, thks to the narratives. It really does look cozy, so homey, very interesting and It makes me want to look at every detail in great natural colours, a superb image with good balance and human interest. Tne neon light draws the eyes in towards the bar and the other patrons. You turn an everyday scene into something really special of the essence of the locale and its culture. Well done.

Una composicion sensacional, que nos muestra esta imagen tan real de la vida cotidiana en la ciudad, tambien me recuerda alguna escena de peliculas y tambien podria ser un buen tema y composicion para un cuadro.
Las luces estan muy bien gestionadas y el luminoso de la botella es un gran punto de atencion, muy buena tambien la nitidez y el abanico de colores.

I love the way this composition fits in the frame and how the view into this corner of the restaurant is offered with superb depth and clarity, unobstracted by any external elements. The people are relaxed and at ease, the discretion of your approach is marvellous.
