Shot taken on board USS Intrepid, a US Navy aircraft carrier that served from World War 2 until 1974 and is now known as the Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum permanently berthed on Hudson River on the West Manhattan, New York City.
The Intrepid was officially designated as a National Historic Landmark since 1986. It's a dynamic Complex, interactive and educational with its mission is to honor the heroes, educate the public and inspire the youth.
To be on deck like this is a life time experience indeed!
It was rather cloudy day almost diffuse light using my old faithful 23year old NikonFA and fix wide lens Nikkor 20mm f2.8, post processing from Slidefilm Kodachrome 64.

The old analog camera and lens have rendered this composition really timeless. Wonderfully processed really.
The rainy day creates a special and pleasant mood and the strong yellow line leads one nicely in the photo towards the almost monochrome city behind.
The Intrepid is a great way to occupy the kids on a rainy day in New York, I remember being there on just such a day some years back.
have a great weekend

excellent and original shot from NYC with really great view of its mighty skyline!Despite cloudy and rainy weather I really like this yellow paining of the helicopter paintings, which brings so great color contrast to the shot.

Great positioning of the big H to lead the eye into the frame, across the ship and into that skyline of the city. A strange combination to see the vehicles of war in this particular setting. You handled the light perfectly, it looks like it was really tough with the misty rain, but the bright yellow balances that out very nicely!
All the best

a most unexpected sight after your series of portraits and elegant architecture:) You've structured your composition in a superb way combining elegantly and effectively graphism, a view over the vast deck and a full background that tells us exactly where we are. I love the decisive way the yellow lines manage to prevail in this moody and heavy atmoshere, the contrast is amazing. You've created an irresistible urge to move forward and approach the jets, the people and the other focal points. The workshop pictures give us some more interesting hints about this Intrepid. (While looking for information on the HMS Intrepid that was sank in Lakki in 1943, I kept running into webpages dedicated to this aircraft carrier:) Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great weekend,

Very nice point of view, The rainy day creates a lot of grey tones, but yellow is optimistic, people on board show the size of the ship

Composition original, super bien réaliser, le jaune attire bien sur le regard, ajoute une perspective intéressante, de belles complémentaires en WS

You move us almost brutally from the gentle faces of Uzbekistan to an aircraft carrier in the US. But the yellow lines of a helipad on a black deck on a rainy day certainly has its graphic beauty too. The depth cretaed by the lines is also impressive.

very interesting photo. I was quite disorientated at first. It felt like a ship but the proximity of the NYC was misleading. But your note explains it all. Great rainy atmosphere well captured with some water on the ground and a mist in the distance.

I'm a huge huge fan of aircraft carriers and similar large ships, they are monsters for subjects!!!
as for this photo, i completely understand the problem with such compositions with the wide angle lens.
Its hard to keep the fg subject perpendicular while keeping the bg subjects also perpendicular.
So I know what you're going through here.
love the yellow against the navy dark blue.
smart set up, and i'm totally jealous :)

Un point de vue impressionnant et un peu surréaliste avec les buildings de NY en arrière plan.

the old photos always have their charm and their particular mood, very nice contrast between yellow and gray, I also really like the Ws with the ship, excellent detail in both shots...

Awesome capture of this old warship! I had a chance to tour this ship once, I was very impressed. Good lighting in spite of the cloudy day with good details. Well done, tfs.

nice the view of the board of USS Intrepid with the yellow lines to create a great contrast in the scene and the moody colour of the aircraft carrier.I like the creative perspective as the good reportage shot from this floating museum.

I have a few big recollections of the USS Intrepid and its Sea-Air-Space Museum, which I visited twice.
This view from the helipad create a deep perspective towards the Manhattan skyline in background, and I like the graphical effect of the yellow elements on the flight-track of this aircraft carrier.
A good photo in spite of the rainy day.
PS: I was there in October 2005

I really like this! this is the kind of shot I wish I had taken! I love the composition and the original way in which you have used the helipad and the colour to lead us in to the shot.
Urs (14082) 2013-08-30 18:33
That is a completely new perspective from the aircraft carrier, and I like it a lot. The bright yellow markings make the difference on that not very nice day. Well done
mcmtanyel (16581) 2013-09-01 19:35
The yellow lines on the grey deck under grey skies are very striking. One comment I have is that the horizon is tilted to the left, a 2.5-degree CW rotation should fix it.
pili51 (1489) 2014-08-31 12:41
when I have seen this photo taken on the deck of the USS Intrepid, I remember the two times that I have visited it.
I have a great recollections of this aircraft-carrier and museum.
The views on the skyline of Midtown Manhattan are splendid.
I notice that the H of the helipad has marked your horizon in this shot, and it's the good choice, because by this way we have the sensations of a landing.
I tried a small divertimento, with a WS where I have placed the horizon adapted to the skyline on the city. But it's not possible.
It's a good old analogical photo, scanned skilfully.

It is docking therre since 1977, Abmdsudi, and from time to time the dsisplay of airplanes is changing - when I was abored, I saw a Harrier jet and some Helicopters - now see there is an Israeli Kfir is the first on left. The H painted sign added good sense of depth to the scene. Intyriguingh subject.
Have a nice weekend,
