Photographer’s Note
Photo taken on Lake George with the new cruise ship added in the summer of 2004, the 400 passenger Adirondac. This beautiful ship is 115 feet in length and has a turn-of-the century design combined with state-of-the-art technology. This vessel is designed after late 19th century touring ships. The Adirondac has been created with the comfort of the passenger in mind. The boat is handicapped accessible, air-conditioned and heated. There are two full service bars located on the first and second decks. She will seat 200 for fine dining on the first deck with a potential for 200 for dining on the second deck. The atrium opens up to expose the second deck to the sun and stars. On the third deck you will find a bridal room that can also serve as a private dining room.
The computer controlled engines are quiet and totally isolated for sound and vibration reduction which makes it the quietest luxury ship on the lake. The hull is entirely made of aluminum and is trimmed out with mahogany and cedar. The pilot house has the traditional cedar siding just like her sister ship, the "Horicon." With the backdrop of the great Adirondack Mountains and the beauty of Lake George, it is difficult to imagine a more magnificent spot for any function.
I know that the ship is a bit in the center but I didn't want to lose the sky by cropping on either side to put it off center. And I think the fact that the small boat is there help for that purpose. I've also cropped at the bottom to have a more panoramic view.
Any comment will be appreciate, thanks.

Bonjour Pierre.

Bonne journee,
Jean-Yves

Hi Pierre.
Very good picture, the cruise ship looks like one of the old movies from the west.I'm glad you explained to us that it's a super model ship. The colours and contrats are very good.
Very well captured. Good compo. Good DOF.
Well done.

Again a beautiful view involving Lake George, with a fine angle towards the Adirondac cruising on the deep blue waters. Once again the light is quite special on this one, as it breaks through the clouds and accentuates the green hillside and the foreground elements. Very nice shot, Pierre.

Bonsoir Pierre

Hi Pierre. I think you made the right decision with keeping the composition the way it is and keeping the outstanding clouds no matter what. It looks like you had to lighten the shadows a fair bit. I bet you had to underexpose a fair bit to retain the bright cloud's highlight detail. Nice one Pierre!

Compliments

Bonjour Pierre
I like the symmetry, between the smaller, & larger boats. Good pov, sharpness, lighting, & color. Bon travail!

Salut Pierre,

Hi Pierre,
Just back from the Maritimes and Gaspesie. I have been through the Lake George area several times and am glad to see your great and interesting shot of this ship. The overall composition is superb, with excellent colour, clarity and contrast. Perhaps some slight cropping to place the ship a little more off centre would be in order, but that is minor. I also like the little speedboat to the left that provides enhancement and balance. Well seen and captured, Pierre.

Bon soir Pierre, we both posted boats today as Michelle also demonstrates in her nice theme.
I like the the way the bright tones of this elegant cruise ship are set off against the rich green hues of the hills and the threatening sky. Nice work & interesting note too!

This is a crisp, clean ship with a lovely and dramatic sky, Pierre! The colors are clear and deep in this photo. Good work!
Bon travail !

Hi Pierre
you did cropped well to spot this boat enlightened out, straight in the middle as a static contrast for the movement well indicated also with the second speedboat, a perfect background with the greens and sky in a less bright setting and a well textured god colored water.
Thanks for the note.

Hi Pierre - you captured a special moment in time here - The fine main motif (the cruise ship) nice framed by the landscape - the dark clouds gives a strange but great moody image - thanks for sharing.

A beautiful ship, Paul, in my eyes looking very American. I saw this shot some time ago and later read about a tragic accident with a ship at Lake George. Apart from the strange notion of knowing about Lake George and the boat traffic on this beautiful lake, I hope this wasn't the ship involved. Your capture with a low POV is nice, placing the ship against the billowing wooden mountainsides under a dramatic sky, and the smaller boat is definitely helping balancing the picture. Very well done!

The textures of the lake surface and forest top are gorgeous Pierre. They are very rich and the colors well saturated. The clouds create a dramatic ceiling as they billow over the crest of the hills with their mix of grey and white and a little finger of black reaching over. And the two boats make a nice set up right in the middle of this placid scene. Looks great. And it's strange to imagine such a placid setting as the scene of a tragedy that took so many lives not long after you took this. When a group from around here in Detroit was on a boat that capsized. It's a reminder of how such placid scenes can still be such a danger. Perhaps that's what the dark clouds are telling us.

The shades on the hill, the cloudes on the backdrop excellent colour, clarity and contrast.

Hi Pierre - this looked simple in thumbnail, but I'm glad I opened it, the vivid colours are marvelleous, and the exposure of the different clouds cannot be any better.
