Photographer’s Note

Beautiful deep gorges, glens and waterfalls abound in the Ithaca, NY (which explains the well-known logo Ithaca is gorges logo found on most souvenirs and tourism brochures of the area). One of the most popular is Ithaca Falls, which is about 150 ft (45 m) high and 175 ft (53 m) wide. Fall Creek has the largest watershed of the Ithaca gorges and the last of its waterfalls is Ithaca Falls, its crown jewel. Taughannock Falls (pictured in one of my earlier postings) is higher, but Ithaca Falls may be the most powerful of the many falls in the Finger Lakes region.

Visitors are amazed by these stunning falls, spectacular at any time of the year. The easy accesibility (a relatively short walk from downtown or the Cornell University campus) adds to its popularity. There is a small park near the trail to the falls for spectators wishing to relax in the grass or sit on a bench and enjoy the scenery. During the summer it is a popular swimming location for residents and students.

The recent cold wave took its toll on Ithaca Falls: as you can see, most of it is frozen solid (it is the first time I saw it like this). Maybe this is what those people were contemplating...

No post-processing on this image, except resizing (to meet TE requirements) and framing. Hope you'll enjoy it, any suggestions or comments appreciated.
