Photographer’s Note
... so cold (about 9°F/-13°C when I took this image) that I don't feel like going outdoors. But... the frigid and excessively dry air is everywhere, it's hard to ignore. These ice crystals are an example: they were on most windows Saturday morning. How could I miss such a great opportunity for macro shoots? Not sure if this image fits the TE profile, but I was suggested to give it a shot ;-)
No post-processing was used, except being converted in B&W using the Channel Mixer procedure as described by Ken Rockwell. Hope you'll like it, any criticism would be appreciated.

Great idea! Ilike the close up of these crystals, which are incredibly beautiful. The black & white is good, but I think that the colour, which is probably quite blue, would convey the sense of the ice and cold even better. Looks great as it is though. Well done!

Hi Catalin, regardless if this shot fulfills TE criteria or not I still learned several elements with this shot. I learned that you're freezing your b... off in Ithaca ;-), but I also learned about conversion to B&W. The link is GREAT! I will try it next time I have a conversion in mind and will dedicate it to you. I mean it!
I don't any experience with macro and I miss a little bit sharpness, aminly in the periphery. Is that a result of macro?
Alvin's idea and presenting in blue is also a great one.

Hi Catalin,
Very unique black & white photo. The patterns almost seem man made in thier prefection.

oh yes! desigur e mult mai efectiv, dar nu intotdeauna noi decidem cand sa facem poza! o facem cand e momentul oportun. formatiunile mele de gheata le-am surprins dimineata si bine ca n-am steptat intunericul, caci peste zi a iesit soarele si totul s-a topit! si asa am avut o iarna fara temperaturi sub zero.
cele bune si Hristos a inviat!
