With my last photo of 2013, I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year! The sky turned fiery over Brooklyn a few days ago, and I would like to tell you a bit more about this great NYC borough...
Brooklyn, like the rest of NYC, was originally Dutch. It was actually made of six separate Dutch settlements back in 1634. The name comes from the Dutch word Breukelen, and the motto of Brooklyn is also from the old Dutch: "Eendraght Maeckt Maght" = "In unity there is strength"
New Year's Day 1898 was an important one for Brooklyn; that's the day it stopped being an independent city, and became part of greater NYC. Before that day, Brooklyn was the fourth largest city in the US, and it is currently the most populous borough, with 2.5 million residents.
There are 50 to 60 distinct neighborhoods in Brooklyn, each one different from the other. It's a great place to explore, and a great place to live. :-)
Just a side note, there was no change made to this photo except to add some contrast. This was the true color of the sky that evening.
Happy 2014 everyone!!!

what a charming photo. Love this golden orange sky and the siluetes of the houses. I never went in Brooklyn, but I like to visit this part of NYC, including the Brooklyn brewery.
Thanks for the note.

On dirait bien que le ciel est en feu sur Brooklyn. J'aime beaucoup ce maisons en ombres chinoises en premier plan. Pour une fois que les lignes électriques sont belles.

What a dramatic sunset. Wow, this only happen once in a while with cloud like this and yet the sun was low enough to illuminated the bottom part of hte cloud setting the whole sky in fiery red. I can just sit there and stare at this sky until the light is all gone. A very nice image to bit good bye to the old year.
Have a great 2014 and many more pictures.

Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you, I sure hope you had a wonderful holiday season and I thank you for the well wishes! Wow, what an amazing sky...kind of apocalyptic though, it looks angry! :)
Isn't it great when nature provides this kind of material, all you have to do is basically snap the shutter? I think most people would have gone with nothing more than the sky itself, but your wise inclusion of the neighborhood silhouettes helps put it in context, as well as utilizing it as a good base for this frame. Love the mood of this picture, and a fitting one indeed to end the year. All the best for you and yours in 2014.

Thanks for you warm words, you are right I really enjoy this country. But I have some limits, I can't swim, for example.
Impressive present of the Mother Nature for the Christmas, just fantastic colors of the sky. I alos like this composition with the black silhouettes of the houses. very nice postcard for the New Year Eve.

Fantastic sky! I like the way you captured it, with the almost silhouette of the top of the buildings. Even the electricity wires are fine here! Great colours!
kato (11630) 2014-01-07 0:19
You're capturing well this scene by a good composition and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the red sky dyed the setting sun and residential area of Brooklyn with silhouette. It's also effective for the combination of horizontal electric wire and perpendicular pole. And, the clouds with shade draws out a good impact in entire image.
I wish that you will spend a healthy and a good year in 2014.

Fabulous capture, this is really a very beautiful photograph. It almost looks as if hell had taken over the earth and brought with it its eternal fire. The colours are vibrant and the pattern of the clouds is quite striking. You have included just enough of the silhouetted townscape to make it more than just a sunset. Well done.
mcmtanyel (10913) 2014-01-07 22:11
A magnificent sunset was captured with brilliant light and deep, rich colors in this photo. A Happy 2014 to you, too!
PS. I think we got over the worst of the cold front without any frost bites. We were fortunate that there was a time lapse between the rains and the cold weather and the roads had a chance to dry before the temperatures plummeted. How is NYC faring?
fds (7398) 2014-07-09 13:51
dear friend fantastic red sky for this sunset i licke very much the warms colors
clic (14340) 2014-09-06 8:30
Of course there's 'much drama' conveyed by those buildings below the orange burst that gives the impression of another world, because of its atypical look, in which I can easily imagine a silhouetted pterodactyl flying!
Many compliments for this much-attractive rarity.
