September is the perfect time to take a stroll on the Coney Island boardwalk. It's not as hot, and the sky is usually a deep blue. One landmark that tourists and locals alike usually head to is Nathan's Famous Hot Dogs.
Nathan's was founded by Polish immigrant Nathan Handwerker and his wife Ida in 1916. Since then, both the hot dogs and the brand itself have become an iconic piece of Americana. Famous people from actors to presidents have requested Nathan's at their events, and there are now branches in every US state and other countries, too.
On Coney Island, you can get your hot dog here on the boardwalk, or at the original location, which is only one block away. Every year to kick off the summer season, there is a hot dog eating contest where both men and women attempt to stuff as many hot dogs as possible down their throats. It's a popular event, but it doesn't look very appealing to me!!
Here you have a view of Nathan's, with the well-known parachute tower in the distance. It was a lovely day, and I enjoyed both my hot dog, and the unique and delicious french fries that you can only get at Nathan's. :-)
A note about the tight framing: I would have liked to get a wider view, but their were garbage cans and construction materials directly behind me, so I was unable to move back any further.
In the WS is a side view of this Nathan's location.

I want one, I want one, I want one :) just thinking what's for dinner and I come across this, and we're it not for the slight issue of the Atlantic ocean, this is right where I would go this minute. American hotdogs is one of those things that seems a very special and very loved thing, and I doubt I have tasted a proper american one here in Europe. In fact, I commented before on one of Jason (jcoix) shots of new York that the first thing I will do when I finally visit that city is devour some street endor specialities.
And your composition is to me perfect, it is tit, but that pertly captures the place, while also making in the tall tower of the fairground ride in the distance. Love this shot, full of life and color and wonderful light.
All the best

I rather like the tight cropping, so garbage cans sometimes serve several purposes. This is among the brightest and liveliest pictures of the day with its strong features of yellow and red and the crowds of hungry people. The diagonals and very good depth benefit the composition strongly. I am not familiar with Nathan's hot dogs but I suspect they wouldn't be spicy enough for me.

A fine perspective and a very attractive "daily life street scene"! An interesting note and an abundance of enjoyable details. This is indeed a very valuable TE contribution!

haha...Tosca is a serious 'foody' so I've already shown her this photo and now she wants to go back to NY haha
I like that you included the tower on the left, and its smart that you excluded the garbage cans, they really ruin photos!!
bright, colorful and cultural too.
perfect for TE

Nostalgic! That's Nathan's Famous we patronised eight years ago Brenda. Viola! to view the fresh new look with all the new makeup nicely done full of vibrancy and the unique boardwalk!! Indeed great to see the Yellow and Green logo remains well and alive and the cheery attending staffs. A spectacular burst of colours there well detailed in such great clarity, a splendid photo to remember and I think you have done justice with this picture I adore. Fyi, an almost similar straight-on shot of this spot is still in my archive. Very well done and thsk for sharing. My congrats.

Even from the West coast (relatively close anyway), this certainly brings about the sights of summer...and having been there before, I can also hear the sounds and smell the dawgs! :) Great shot along the boardwalk, everything is bright, lively and colorful. The mustard yellow of Nathan's is impossible to miss...and that's a good thing! From just one iconic location, you've captured a great atmosphere of Coney Island, especially with this composition which leads us right down to the amusement ride that seems to be visible in every picture taken from these parts. :)
Just seeing this brings back great memories, and a stronger drive to get back a.s.a.p.! Another wonderful slice of this incredible city. Good to get this in before it gets far too cold out there! Enjoy the day ahead. Take care.
Friendly wishes from the other side....of the country, not THE other side,
I read your e-mail about an hour ago, and I'm still laughing that you actually have a favorite rat story....loved it!! Thanks for sharing those moments with me.

Cette photo nous montre bien l'atmosphère de ce parc emblématique bien connu. J'aurais aimé le voir et manger moi aussi 2 hot-dogs de ce Nathan.
Bonne semaine Brenda,

I like your tight framing with the focus of attention on Nathan's. The composition is also very well balanced with the tower nicely filling some space at the end of the diagonal perspective of the boardwalk. Very colourful and sharp - excellent picture. I have been to NY many times but have never made it to Coney Island. If I go there again I certainly will (and of course have a famous hot dog!).
Kind REgards, Ann

You're capturing well this place by a good angle and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the casual Hot dog shop located to this island. I can see many customers in here. So, it looks like a familiar shop.

I love hot dogs, and guess what my favorite hot dog place around New Castle, PA is called: Coney Island! I suppose having hots dogs at Coney Island in New Castle is the best substitute for the real deal 6+ hours away.
I love the colors in this photo as well as the perspective - thanks!
