Photographer's Note

Once the summer has ended, things begin to slow down on Coney Island. At the end of this month, Deno's Wonder Wheel Amusement Park will close its doors until late spring of next year.

Deno's is the oldest amusement park still in operation on the boardwalk, and it has some of the oldest rides. The large "Wonder Wheel" ferris wheel was built in 1920 and has 24 cars. It is called an "eccentric ferris wheel" - some of the cars stay in place, while others slide on rails inside the wheel as it turns.

Next to the ferris wheel is an attraction that is no longer in use, but is still a symbol of Coney Island. It is an observation tower that would spin to give a panoramic view, while also moving up and down.

Coney Island is a great place to visit, and I look forward to going back next year. :-)
