Photographer’s Note

When I was young, the default condition was that smoking was permitted everywhere and socially acceptable in every situation.

How much has changed!

Today, in New Jersey, even on the beach, the default condition is "no smoking." Small areas are set aside for smokers so that the other beachgoers aren't exposed to secondhand tobacco smoke from their habits.

Wonderful daily life scene. I like the surprised expression on two smoking ladies' faces. Obviously they have no idea what caught your attention. Your inclusion of the crowded beach in the background is great. The smokers are definitively a minority nowadays. TFS and have a nice day!

Hi William,
Very funny shot depicting an up to date daily life of smokers. If I were a smoker, I would have tried so hard to quit. They make it hard to be a smoker this day and it is a good thing. It's pathetic to see sometimes smoker have to be out trying to hind from the rain in a cornor somewhere to smoke and here in this case similar situation, but at least it a beach. I won't go to far into critiquing this shot. That's not you intention anyway.

This image is bad for the no smoking campaign, as it cries out...
SMOKING IS SEXY!!

I like the composition, the distance between the smokers and the rest is what smoking prohibition laws are all about...

Back when I quit smoking I made some images on this theme myself but they are not in TE, but they were way more ugly than this pleasant scene, a sunny day on the beach!

Incredible indeed how it is changed. It's nieuw for me that there are beaches where smoking is not allowd!

Your image brought a good chuckle, but also sadly an awareness that youth is fleeting and cigarettes are destroying these attractive young ladies lives.
