Photographer’s Note
This is a photo of the Sarah Mildred Long Memorial Bridge, spanning the Piscataqua River, between Portsmouth, NH and Kittery, Maine. This is a vertical lift bridge built between 1917 and 1919 with great difficulty due to the strong currents and deep channel. This structure used 6000 tons of sand and 14,000 barrels of cement to pin the steel footings in place. There are three 300 foot spans crossing the river. The footings were sunk 82 feet into the bedrock to support this structure. It was designed to carry motor vehicle traffic and also railroad trains underneath.

It is a very interesting bridge captured with excellent sharpness and from a very good angle. A couple of questions though:
- What do you mean by "a vertical lift bridge"?
- I can see the lower platform, but it's cut in the middle - is it for traffic on the upper platform nowadays?

Fine diagonal composition Jack. This indeed is an interesting and well captured bridge. The inclusion of the shrubbery in the front adds to the already fine depth and I like the sky. Some spots in your pic look a bit unnatural smooth - did you use Neatimage? Anyway, this is a fine image.

Very interesting structure! I believe I never seen this type of lift bridge before. A
bout the photo I believe a little less saturation could have worked well because it created a small overexposure in the clouds. Good POV and composition.

Good depth by inclusion of the plants in the foreground. The diagonal axis of the bridge is more interesting than being parallel to the frame margin. You've still managed to heep the horizon level though. Many people don't.

Perfect composition here and nice DOF progression, pity of the texture in the clouds are totally gone.

Interesting structure.
It looks like a suspension bridge but without the cables and with steel footings.
Nice shot
