The Mount Washington cog railway was the dream of Sylvester Marsh, who climbed the peak and wanted to provide a way for people to access the top of the mountain. It was a difficult task because all the materials had to be brought by oxen for 25 miles to Bretton Woods. The railway began to operate in July 1869

A nice shot. It looks like at a "western" movie! The train seems to fall. But just a question... What did it happen to the tree just above the roof?

Zut j'ai râté le train ! A quelle heure le prochain ?
La composition est bonne mais le sapin à côté du toit a eu un petit problème.

Gosh I miss the train! At what time the next one? The composition is good but the fir tree beside the roof had a small problem.

Love this pic. That train must be fueled with coal, geez... the smoke it makes. This is a very interesting note you have here, Mount Washington would be a destination I would like to go but could never imagine going up the mountain on foot so this train is really a cool idea. and yes, please tell us what happened with that tree, bizarre.

Joan, may I just do a suggestion to you. You should not select dark areas and play with contrast, I bet this is why you get these strange effects on your pic.
Unfortunately, there is not much to do against those dark zones, unless trying a density mask, but on the whole pic and not only on selected areas.

Apart from this, this is a nice pic, well balanced and composed. I like the ancient mood in it.

* no more smiley, I will update tomorrow !

Don't worry about the tree. The picture is still nice enough to make us forget it. This train reminds me of the "Brienzer-Rothorn Bahn" in Switzerland. The angle of the track is such that the loc had to be built specially to keep it horizontal.

Marvelous shot Joan. Beautiful composition and very interesting scene. I like the dark smoke from the attractive train. The peoples on the station they makes the picture alive.

This is a marvelous image showing the days gone by but also the effect on the enviroment our discoveries have. The smog of the train defenitely makes the image for me, somehow I have a feeling it would look great in black and white or sepia. I don't know what exactly happened with the smog to look like that, but I can see past this and enjoy the beauty of the image. You may consider cropping on the left.
Please see my workshop.
