Sunday is a quiet day, the train workers are home with their families and the glorious machines have the day to cool and drain and drip and everything else the living beasts of burden do. I am sure that wandering the tracks is not allowed but then there was no one to say don't and we all know what we would do to get a shot.

Palmer once has 7 lines in this little town, the ones that survived are now incorporated in the line shown on the logo on the engine, the New England Central Railroad. I am not positive but it may be that railroads are the most magical of all machines, they of all the machines never got into individual use...

Hello Greg,

Interesting image. I really enjoy watching trains go by outside the city. They just are powerful machines! When I visited Poland this past May I noticed how many station are now abandoned. They make excellent placed to take pictures and soon I will post some of these images. Excellent composition with good details and colours. Thanks Greg.

Roberto

Greg,
I live to close to the train tracks tha cross our city in exact two halfes. For some reason they still use their horns to let every one know that they are coming, despite that every street has barriers and regardless of the time of the day or shall I say regardless of the time of the night? Well, I already had several times the urge to do some train photography and for some reason I never did it. Your image gave me now the right inspiration to go after it.
Peter

Hello Greg

Good old chunky North American trains, I will miss these when I leave North American shores. The colours are superb along with your composition and the detail in the front train is spot on. I also like the overgrown grass/weed on the railways.
Regards
Jim

Georg

Hello Greg,

Nice shot with those big engines. The lightning was nice and well put in evidence the colors of the machines.
I like also the frontal point of view and the composition with a train on the both sides but one uin background and one in foreground.

Yves.

Hello Greg,
You cover an original subject and which allures eternally large and small. Good framing of this engine to the conspicuous colors. I like contrast with the greenery, as well as the low point of view.
Have a nice day
Cordially

Thanks for sharing!

Hello Greg,

Good details in this huge machine!
Colourful scene, a well balanced composition...
I notice the rails here aren't much in use, hopefully not symptomatic for the future of railways!

Greetings,
Pablo -

Hi Greg,

Very good picture, the position where you were standing is very good, as if one train is saying "goodbye!" and the other is saying "Hi!"
Also the contrast and sharpness are just beautiful.

Regards,
Hussein

I have such a love of trains (even though I live right beside a train track). The colors on this are very nice. Shot from a very good angle, the lighting and the shadows are very nice. TFS!

An interesting subject, a superb shot. Your mastering of exposure, composition and definition show up in this photo too.
Among all the things created by human hand and mind trains mantain a certain charm (like sailing vessels).
Ciao,
Donato

Hi Greg,
This indeed has unhurried feeling with all the grass around the rails. But I guess that's more because there's less switching nowadays when the aim is to use long point to point unit trains. Big yards get bigger and smaller have less use.
Good bright colours.
Kari

Hello Greg. I like train but never get to shoot any yet. This one is so colorful and strong colors. Excellent framing with the other one looks like getting away. Well done and best regards. Jusni

hello greg

so, you got to those trains after all, friend ;)) a nice shot of this derailed (is it derailed) locomotive in the bushy setting. a tad too dark though for my taste (i think, it's the polarizing effect).

we should try the springfield station one of these days. i find it's quite photogenic (in industrial way), but usually i see it only very late on friday nights :)

warm regards,
kristaps

Hi Greg,
This yellow and blue giant seems to be in full motion due to its vivid colors and razor sharp details. Great use of light with lovely soothing shadows and great depth to this wonderful bit of Americana. They used to manufacture locomotive in my hometown and in fact the frist American train ran from Schenectay to Albany.

hello Greg,
you're right, there's something fascinating about the trains. something romantic because of the tales of the long jorneys across the 19th century Europe, something dangerous, but fascinating because of the "Orient Express", "The Great Train Robbery" and all the Westerns with people jumping on/off moving trains... I find it difficul to define exactly how, but this photo seems to have it all, and I like it a lot, espacially the train ans the rails disappearing in the distance. the jorney of discovery continues :)

with best regards,
Kristine

Very interesting choice of composition and colors, I like the good depth of field and the innumerable details we can let our eyes wander on in this picture.

Hi Greg,
Trains is a fascinating theme for me, but I have never explored it well. You have here a very attractive photo. I like how those big machines fill the whole image, with their vivid colours standing out much against the surrounding green under the bright sun.
Regards, José.

Hello Greg,
An excellent composition that makes us see two faces of the trains. The perspective and depth are marvellous and also the colors and details. Good work.

Hi Greg,
striking All American Train Shot.
Perfect point of view and format, excellent contrast and saturated colors, very powerful altogether, just the way I like it!
This qualifies as a damn good job, lots of nostalgy and POWER on display, my compliments.
Have a great weekend. I'll see ya soon, buddy.
Cheers,
Fulvio.

Is that the line that runs out towards Gt Barrington. I've often great opportunities for photographong fieght on that line, but never been prepared for it. And from your note, I think this qualifies for one of my themes.
