another shot (the first one can be seen here) with budhist prayer flags near peace pagoda in leverett, masachusetts. this time: the 'other side' showing the back of the pagoda pond. the place attracts a diverse crowd any day of the week. for example, to the right of the scene in the photo, there was an open air AA (alcoholics anonymous) group meeting (i did not include them in the shot to preserve their privacy) while closer to the pagoda itself there was a group of people practicing yoga. and, in the middle of it, one can run into moments like this... :) all in all, very tolerant and soothing ambience.

-- background info:
New England Peace Pagoda in Massachusetts, Leverett, is the first Nipponzan-Myohoji Peace Pagoda to be built in the US and was completed in 1986. There are around 80 Peace Pagodas around the world in Europe, Asia, and the United States, and most (though not all) have been built under the guidance of Nichidatsu Fujii (1885-1985), a Buddhist monk from Japan and founder of the Nipponzan-Myohoji Buddhist Order. Fuji was greatly inspired by his meeting with Mahatma Gandhi in 1931 and decided to devote his life to promoting non-violence. In 1947, he began constructing Peace Pagodas as shrines to World peace. The first Peace Pagodas were built as a symbol of peace in the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Dalai Lama visited Pagoda a few years ago.

Kristaps,
Another very nice image of this park, it really provides the essence of Nepal or Tibet instead of the U.S. Very nice layers of prayer flags waving with the wind. I was told the meaning of each color represents, I forgot what they all were. Good sharpness of the flags. I like the rich tone with nice saturated colors. Thanks for a beautiful image.

I really like this one, it's even possible I like it better than the "certain flag" post. the clear lines, the deep colours, the play of light and shadows, the narrowing perspective - all that together creates a powerful photo with a strong sense of wind [of change, possibly]. smart and creative work, my compliments.

best,
K.

Hi Kristaps,

another interesting shot. Another graphical apealing with this colorful flags. Your wide angle lens brought so many details. I used to be buddhist when I was a kid following religious organization BSGI (Associação Brasil Soka Gakkai Internacional). It's the japanese source of the buddhism in Brazil. There is a small distortion at the left. Is this common with this lens? My question is because I'm thinking about buying one of this stuff. Well, great job my friend!
Regards,
Carlos

Helo Kristaps

Kristaps, you are going to have to show me this place one of these days. It looks inspired if not inspiring. These blowing testiles make a great capture, super job.

Greg

Hi Kristaps,
At first glance i thought you've been to Nepal, but no, it's almost home ;-)
This looking through to the background is very nice composed. The letters in front on the paper are pin sharp and there are some great colours around to play with.
Didn't no that there were that many pagoda's in the west...interesting to read.
Regards, Henk

Nice jigsaw-shot, Kristaps.
There's a lot of stuff to look at, and a very interesting peekaboo type of feeling to it. The colors are great, so is the overall detail.
Is this the same exiled Dalai Lama who lived for years in The Plaza Hotel on 5th Ave.?
Of course, my sources of information could be wrong... LOL!!!
The weekend is on its way, and The Don gets mischievous once again... he he!
Have a great weekend, buddy. See ya soon,
Fulvio.

Hello Kristaps,
nice title
good observation
nice color and presentation
thanks for explanation and sharin

Sveiks Kristaps,

Your vantage point offered a superb perspective on the prayer flags, especially with the brilliant sunlight illuminating the script on the flags. Your D300 has clearly been as effective and as surpassing a photographic instrument as you could have asked for (I believe). Incidentally, I started writing this note, when a telephone call interrupted me. Then when I logged on again, there was your critique of my last post, Niagara Falls. Have a good weekend,

Bulent

Hi, Kristaps -

A bit cluttered, but a very nice arrangement of triangles. Colors are good, too.

Best,
Dan

Kristaps,
I guess that must be another facet of the globalization. I was in Nepal and Tibet 10 years ago and saw for the first time the prayer flags there all over the place. In the meantime it is something that you can see alomst everywhere without the Himalayan backdrop but for example with the Leverett background. very nice framing of the scene with the foreground prayer flags.
Peter

Hello Kristpas,

Magnifique !
Quelle prise de vue, sous ces drapeaux, avec lumières et transparences, c'est vraiment très réussi !
Bon we
Marie

Hallo Kristaps! Please don't laugh but one day I would like to spend some days in an Ashram, doing lots of yoga :) I like how the prayer flags move in the wind, everything seems to fly around very gently, in a peaceful manner, and I find you have caught the mood that I exepct. The Dalai Lama was in Zuerich some years ago too and he spent a whole week where you had the oportunity to join him for meditations. My dear friends had lost their baby girl during this time (she was 15 months old) and they spent the whole week with meditations around the Dalai Lama, and it helped them a lot. Have a good Sunday, Barbara.

Hi Kristaps,
Unique image of the colorful praryer flags blowing in the gentle breeze. The yellow flags look brilliant against the vivid blue sky that reflects strikingly in the calm waters of the pond.

Bonjour Kristaps,
une photo bien dans l'esprit du site TE qui refléète et nous fait découvrir les rituels de pays pour nous lointains. Une photo très nette avec de jolies couleurs.

Daniel.

Hello Kritaps
There are amany prayer flags there! Your point of view is excellent because we feel the wind blowing on these flags. Excelent colours and contrasts. You made these flags interesting to look at.

Hello Kristaps,

Very nice layers of prayer flags waving with the wind.
This is very extraordinarily that we can see all this flags or maybe as newspaper fasten to the clothes line.
Very well done, thanks for sharing.

Best regards,
John.

Hi kristaps this picture is fantastic
this colours and the perfect sharpness make a very good foto
also the pov is great
I really like it

Hi, Kristaps. First, I thought the photo had been taken in Nepal ;o). Your framing using the prayer flags is very good. The window between the higher and lower ones focuses on the background and the pagoda. The wind helped you to achieve this. The bleu flag gives a very good depth to the picture which has a very good DOF. I also like the vivid colours of the flags which make the image very lively.

Hi Kristaps:

I attended Umass Amherst many years ago and know the Pagoda well...and cannot believe how much they have added to it over the years. This looks nothing like I remember but now makes me want to go back. And lets not forget Rattle Snake Gutter Road! ;) Cheers and tyfs

hi kristaps
You've achieved a nice and interesting result, it couldn't have been better framed with the solid flags on the foreground making a kind of window and creating a deep perspective.

regards
didier

Very good framing for this one, Kristaps, all the different intersecting planes are really interesting, with different light...

Cheers
