if there is:

McJob, which is slang for a low-paying, low-prestige job that requires few skills and offers very little chance of intracompany advancement; the term comes from the name of the fast-food restaurant McDonald's, but is used to describe any low-status job — regardless of the employer — where little training is required, staff turnover is high, and workers' activities are tightly regulated by managers. most perceived McJobs are in the service industry, particularly fast food, coffee shops, and retail sales;

McChurch, which is a term used to suggest that a particular church has a strong element of entertainment, consumerism or commercialism which obscures its religious aspects;

McMansion, meaning quickly-built mansions, as much alike as McDonald's hamburgers – a group of large houses built in the same style in the same area;

McPaper (or McNews), which is a newspaper that is considered manufactured and 'for the masses' because of its simplistic prose style and flashy use of colours (typically used in reference to USA Today);

and even McWorld, a term that refers to the globalized Earth and is used in a critical way to emphasize the deprecation of local culture in favor of a global culture prescribed by large corporations. (the term was also used in a McDonald's advertising campaign in the 1990s depicting a world ruled by children),

then there should be McColours and McPhoto, meaning meaningless splash of overly saturated colours in an attempt to present it as a "good shot".

Critiques [Translate]

Kristine, cute, clever glossary. Is this the store next to Hunt's camera?

Greg

We have a McPaper just around the block where I work (a pretty horrible stationery store ... cheap as can be) and we have McClean (this on the other hand is pretty fancy, a public toilet chain, you can even take showers) and I also heard of a McHair (cut and go) and a McOptik (selling glasses). I knew the expression "McMansion" but my understanding was that they were talking about these super big mansions where you do not find each other anymore in your own house :)

I just had my Birchermuasli (I think of the bikini season moving in soon ....) so no French fries I am afraid :) Barbara.

wow... i like that glossary... i was not even aware there were so many mc-terms :)) a nice shot to illustrate and accompany. btw, it seems, recession has not reached mcdonalds in hadley ;) "now hiring all shifts..."

hugs,
k.

ps. funny. how greg recognized the bulding 'behind' right away ;)

Hi Kristine, very nice photo of a very popular place. You don't get to see to many MCdonalds photos in TE. I like the McColurs idea, maybe it should be a colors profile in Photoshop.
Good composition!!!
Good job.

The golden Gull.
I would add Mc politics to your vocabulary,
Mc politics a populistic politic that say that every man have the right to wear arms and the government could murderer their citizens by the law
Mc politics are politics with out politics so everybody that hates politics likes it and could considering vote for it.

nice image my friend
Anders

Hi Avene,

Even though it's a simple shot of McDonalds the light is very warm and your angle and crop balance well. A very good job of making it look good, which few people could do to a McDonalds!

I love you note the most. I've never heard of those words before so it was very enlightening.

Have a great day,

Mel

Hi, Kristine -

When do we move on to McPeople? - the ultimate goal of the consumer society.

As a photo, it's pretty good, with the strong colors, but nothing all that special. As a social commentary, it's devastating.

Best,
Dan

Hello Kristine,
All MC's look the same, even here in Holland it looks exactly like this one. The only difference is that the Big Mac is much cheaper over there ;-)
A funny note, interesting to read.
Strong colours in your photo, also something i like to see. Looks like; who is afraid for the red, yellow and blue ;-)
Have a nice evening, Henk

Hi Kristine,
you got pictures of Taco Bell too? I LOVE THAT JUNK (soft tacos with guacamole and sour cream, YUMMIE!).
I can live on that, I'm tellin' ya! Well... for a couple weeks, I guess... LOL!!!
Nice piece of McAmericana, funny & colorful.
Too bad I can't give you extra smileys for your note!
Cheers,
Fulvio.

Strong photo, and a very good note. It's funny to see the words "now hiring, all shifts" on the sign. It must be written on every single McDonalds in the country. Very nice McColors here. ;-) But seriously I'm afraid I have many McPhoto's in my gallery. I added this photo to my McDonalds theme (the second one actually). I've already filled up one whole theme of McDonalds photos posted here on TE.
Take care,
Ryan

Hi Kristine,
Very clever shot of this much too common sight. The lighting is amazing when the vivid red contrasting wonderfully with the blue sky and the yellow trim complimenting the same sky.
Your note is very insightful as well as humorous.
Regards, Tom

Hi Kristine,

A very entertaining note for a a colorful photograph! I am responding with enthusiasm on my MacIntosh. I 2004 when I bought a new 17-inch Mac G4, a friend sent me an essay by Umberto Ecco, the great Italian writer. Mr. Ecco, clearly a Mac user, wrote that "MacIntoshes are the Catholics of the computer world, and the PCs the Protestants. They can interpret things anyway they like." I sent the email to a friend, a Nobel Laureate in Physics who I knew was an enthusiastic MacIntosh user. Her fired back, "When the girls [his daughters] went away to college, we sat them down and admonished them. 'Date strictly within the religion. Stay away from PC users.'"

Warm regards,

Bulent

hi Kristine

Striking colors and good graphic impression to use the 'Mac' brand for your subject, it really works magic.

tfs, bill

a standard view, without the words in english, this photo could be taken anywhere in the world,
my smiley goes to the note, i can't say it's beautiful, everything which goes with McDo is bad tastes
regards
jo

Hi Kristine,

Funny to hear the different Mc..... words. There are even McWord overviews on the internet. Funny. Soem more that I like myself:
McLicense – A driver's license presumed to be too easily obtained by a person unfit to drive.

McDisneyization - To describe what some see as the spread of the principles of Disney theme parks throughout society.

McDojo – A dojo that is not technically authentic, having gimmicks like "Black Belt in a year" programs. :-))

Nice colour punch to your compo! I do like the Now hiring all staff shifts, since it seems it's fitted fixed there and as such they are always hiring since people want to leave quickly.

Thanks for sharing!
Greetings, Dennis

Hi Kristine. Nice punchy colors in this one, lots of red yellow and blue all over the place. Comprehensive framing and very interesting notes.

Definitely not an ordinary "McPhoto", but a quite well-captured one :o)

Hi Kristine,
Outstanding photograph and a great writeup about the current state of American consumerism and "globalization". I laugh when you use the word "McMansion". My wife has a clever saying that she thinks that many of the McMansions will be the "McSlums" in the future and converted to group homes. Dont' get me started on this issue. My car is a 1993 Nissan Sentra with 172,000 miles and gets 40 mpg on the highway. It runs great and I hope to keep it long enough to have it become an antique. Of course, the camera manufacturers love me. As per your notes, I believe that quality rather than quantity of goods and services will make a comeback in the USA, do to necessity, ie the "localization" of our economy due to rising fuel costs. Wonderful satirical (sad but true) image and notes! I am also very pleased that you like the Sigma 50-150 lens!

Hello Kristine,
I was not aware of these funny words. your note is very interesting, as well as your picture, whihc illustrate that very well. Actually, Mc Colours and Mc Photos are followed by McCritiques, which are the ones made only by people who know each other and who do not really care about the picture itself and I hope we do not end up with a Mac TE ! Geraldine

Bonjour Kristine
Une tsuperbe composition graphique à nouveau avec un beau mariage des couleurs, une image bien contrastée avec la très belle lumière de fin de journée, bravo à toi c'est une très belle réussite et une image que j'aurais aimé faire!
Amicalement
Eric

Hello Kristine,
I enjoyed your smart note very much, and this image is a very spectacular one with brilliant and well saturated colors. A good point of view and a good framing for this composition full with light.
Simple concepts always lead to great art. This frame of yours is a clear example.Technically it's just fine and the colors laid against each other makes a wonderful variation.
All the best.
Stella

Hi Kristine,

very funny note....and it's true. I've only heard about McJob, nice to know about our globalized McWorld :) The image matches your note perfectly. The saturation is provocative and it fits will in this purpose. One more interesting post. Well done!

Carlos

Hi Avene,
It is a true slice of life shot of daily life, not just the carefully edited 'pretty' versions that I like to post; and it does teach us about the world. Youu present many Mc's that I had never heard; of course McDonalds styarted it all with things like its McLobster sandwich in Nova Scotia (first seen in the mid 80's)

HLJ, Pat

Hi Kristine,
Wow... I'd never heard all those words before! So that's a very useful note. And the photo is also very colorful and pleasant to look at. At least there's one thing that any traveler can find in almost any place on this planet... but I'm not certain that's a good thing!
Have a nice day.

Hello Kristine,

Perfect note! Simply amazing! Thanks for improving my English:)
So thats our McWorld, when we read McNews, eat McFood, live in McMansion, having McJob...but I hope we will never take McPhotos:) No way!

STOP FOR McPHOTOS:)

Best greetings,
Mikeo

PS. I like your shot! Its just McDonald's but on a very nice shot. Absolutely not Mc one:)

hello Kristine, what warm colors... i think i would like some children here around games... but great photo.

Hello Kristine,

Tu fais de la publicité pour MacDonald ? C'est joliment coloré, et finalement, ils se ressemblent un peu partout.
Bonne journée
Marie

A most interesting note, I have learned a lot and with fun :-), I just love the last sentence hehe:o)
and the picture, great saturated colors, it looks almost a fake place also due to the special frame you used, and then that incongruous (to me) sign saying "Now hiring all shift". Not many people would think of taking a photograph of this, you did and with a lovely light too. I like this a lot Kristine, its excellent work and it made me smile too...

Cheers
Michèle

Bonjour Kristine,
on peut difficilement choisir plus simple comme sujet.
Les couleurs sont magnifiques et les lumières magiques, celle d'un moment privilégié de la journée.
C'est très agréable à regarder.
En plus, je vais souvent manger dans les MacDonalds.
Regards.
Daniel.

Sveiki Kristine!
This picture can be encountered almost everywhere in the world.
Many people berate McDonalds, and they are right. But there is and another side of it - McDonalds is a place where you can eat something fastly and by low price. Sometimes it helps in juorneys.
Regards, Igor

Hey Kristine,

The crazy mahem of Mc"__"! Fed up with junk food huh?!

Interesting thoughts you've come up with, not to mention lovely cheerful colours you have presented here. Lovely posting, notes to keep in mind too!

Best Regards :)

Hi Kristine,

well, it is an excellent McPhoto with excellent McColours. :)
I admit I had been a guest in these "marvelous" architectual overpluses quite often few years back, but having so much stomach problems after eating this "delicious" food I decided I would rather see less sightseeing and spend that time finding a place for a decent meal. Anyway, it is not so much about McPlace as it is of wonderful display of colours and late afternoon light. With a help of it even most banal things have a chance to lighten up in beauty. Yes, this capture is very very pretty and it could be easily sold for commercial purposes in my opinion. :)

Kind regards,
Jeri
