background info:

New England Peace Pagoda in Massachusetts, Leverett, is the first Nipponzan-Myōhōji Peace Pagoda to be built in the US and was completed in 1986. There are around 80 Peace Pagodas around the world in Europe, Asia, and the United States, and most (though not all) have been built under the guidance of Nichidatsu Fujii (1885-1985), a Buddhist monk from Japan and founder of the Nipponzan-Myōhōji Buddhist Order. Fuji was greatly inspired by his meeting with Mahatma Gandhi in 1931 and decided to devote his life to promoting non-violence. In 1947, he began constructing Peace Pagodas as shrines to World peace. The first Peace Pagodas were built as a symbol of peace in the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Dalai Lama visited Pagoda a few years ago.

a side note about... Tibet:

"Tibet is a plateau region in Central Asia and the home to the indigenous Tibetan people. With an average elevation of 4,900 metres (16,000 ft.), it is the highest region on Earth and is commonly referred to as the "Roof of the World." Geographically, UNESCO and Encyclopædia Britannica consider Tibet to be part of Central Asia, while several academic organizations consider it part of South Asia.

The region was unified in the seventh century by King Songtsän Gampo. In the 13th century Tibet became a part of Mongol-ruled Chinese empire and four centuries later Tibet was further incorporated into the Chinese Empire in the Qing Dynasty. The Dalai Lama lineage was established in 1578, and rose to political power during the times of the 5th Dalai Lama (1617-1682). In 1653, the "Dalai Lama" became an official title, as it is recognized by the Qing government. Between the 17th century and 1951, the Dalai Lama and his regents were the predominant political power administering religious and administrative authority over large parts of Tibet from the traditional capital Lhasa.

In 1912 the 13th Dalai Lama unilaterally declared separation from China.[2] but two years later the Tibetans accepted nominal subordination to China. From 1912 to 1950, Tibet possessed de facto independence, although no nation has ever recognized Tibet as independent. In 1951, under Chinese military pressure, Beijing and the Tibetan government signed an agreement reintegrating Tibet. The 14th Dalai Lama, the head of the Tibetan government in exile believes that in order for it to modernize, Tibet must remain within the People's Republic of China, although he also wants China to give "a full guarantee of preservation of Tibetan culture." Hi Kristaps,
A really interesting POV! The reflection of the sun light makes a star, if I am seeing right. I love this unconventional angle to show architecture.
Well done,
Shaeri

Hi Kristaps,
Good. I liked of your POV, it's very different and it became attractive with these vibrant colors, and, I see, a dual picture, perhaps, you could say for us a dual idea about it. Good work. Creative! Best regards, Consuelo

Hi Kristaps,

this is such a great composition. The choice for this pov is something that only good photographers can do. I really meant that. I would never think about that for this situation. A lot attractive, even in the thumbnail. Great work!
Regards,
Carlos

Hi, Kristaps -

Very interesting use of the flag to shoot directly into the sun without overdoing it! Overall a nice capture, and a timely one.

Best,
Dan

Somehow - your reprint from Wikipedia helped me a lot to understand better the current restlessness among the Tibetan- Chinese relations.
Sure... I would prefer to have the picture of the Tibetan monastery in FG and the dome of the White house in the BG, but... Hey... Who am I to be so picky, eh ?

Love your passion to speak up, Kristaps...

Hello Kristaps. Flags. An interesting topic. Your photo is together with the informative text a kind report photo. The topic is very current. Flags used of States of, ideologies, trade unions etc., - and naturally also of religions. Flags are a signal for a thing. People meet under flags, because they can identify themselves with an idea. A photo worth seeing, outstanding combines with the text. Best regards, Wolfgang.

I'd say this is one of your best posts - strong content, unusual framing and approach to light, I like it a lot. the wide angle works well to create "right in your face" feeling, and your patiecne has paid off, the star is perfect. excellent work, my compliments.

take care,
K.

Hi Kristaps,
I do like the way you framed the peace pagoda with the tibetian prayer flags. The light through the red flag is especially nice. Your note really ties it all together.
HLj, Pat

Fantastic poetic work, vibrant colors.
I like very much!
Complimenti

Hi Kristaps,
The master at "thinking outside of the box" strikes again! I don't know how you keep coming up with such unusual compositions. With the prayer flags in the foreground, the pagoda in the background and the fabulous star-shaped sun being filtered through the flag, it looks just like Tibet or Bhutan. This is a beautiful, mystical and magical image with great spirituality. Just superb!

Are those flags made in China, too :)? Hey, this is a powerful composition, and a tough one to nail technically. You did very well. May well be your best so far. Keep it up! Cheers!

Hi Kristaps,
I liked the pun...more importantly I likied the shot...the POV here is fascinating, and the rich red color makes it a visual treat.I loved the star pattern on the flag, that the sunlight causes.
Regards,
Sagarneel.

hi kristaps,
i do admire the effect of the ultra-wide lense... i for one decided to use only wide angle, and preferably - 30 mm or 50 mm fixed...
close-ups, close contact with the models...this is what "drives me", lately...and your waor falls perfectly into this cathegory...
bw, j.

Kristaps, this is a nice one, different in some ways that your gallery but a fine compliment just the same. The light in the fabric is great and the details around the edge, the peace pagoda, the pond, the script on the other flag all make a very compelling and interpretative photo.

Greg

Bonjour Kristaps, Tres dynamique cette composition c'est un bonne idée d'avoir filtré le soleil a travers ce drapeau!

Outstanding.

did you use flash for this one?
I can't believe that with the sun behind the flag and in front of you could get this outstanding result.
RAW? what did you do? I'm wondering!
