Photographer’s Note
At Rockport's inner harbor, there is this one red building that is one of THE most popular subjects for artists and photographers. Indeed, an artist was painting to my left as I snapped this shot while a fellow photographer stood near his tripod along the opposite shore. Here I am trying to capture something unique? Oh well, it is colorful.
The 4 foot long steel lobster cages are in the foreground. The lobster boats, pictured, troll the ocean floor not far from the shoreline and drop the traps, each baited with a dangling skate fish or the like.
Though a chilly brisk wind was blowing, it was a great day to get to see the ocean after a long winter spent indoors, then stop at a Lobster pound to eat before heading home.

You have an exquisite and extensive portfolio of pictures. I like a lot of them, and I would like to comment them, but they are too many. I'm starting with your latest one. You have some really nice colors in this photo, and I like the seagull which adds dynamism to a somewhat calm and serene background. Also everything is very clear and very focused. Nicely done.

Hi Kathy,
You have truly conveyed the sense of the Maine coast in your well-composed photograph. The lobster traps provide an excellent frame for the lobster boats. The red building with bouys hung on the side makes a classic background. The sharp gull is a pleasing extra. Wonderful Light and color throughout. This could be a calendar photograph and I mean that in the best sense. Sometimes I look at very 'artistic' photos and I wonder. "Why?:"

Kathy,
Very nice photo! I like the traps in the foreground, and the boats are so typical of the Northeast. I think I might have cropped the right edge so that the stern of that boat was fully in view. Of course the gull may have been uncooperative in your attempt to frame the compo, so maybe there was no room to crop that edge.
I frequently ask myself your question about "am I trying to capture something unique?" I think the answer is that it is a special challenge to try to do a subject that has been done frequently, yet add a special touch. Your inclusion of the gull and the vertical compo make this shot stand out.

Hi Kathy,
Beautiful New England image with the sea gull the gravy and the lobster traps the dessert.
