Pier & Harbor

An historic fishing port, Provincetown is situated at the tip of Cape Cod in an area of spectacular natural beauty, surrounded by miles of dunes and beaches. Provincetown has a diverse and singular history. The Pilgrims first landed in Provincetown in 1620 and signed the Mayflower Compact, a declaration of self-determination and radical thought that characterizes the history and people of Provincetown, even today. Provincetown has been home to sailors, pirates, fisherman, painters, and authors for centuries. In the nineteenth century, Provincetown, with the largest and safest natural harbor on the New England coast, was one of the greatest and busiest seaports in the country. The rich texture of cultural and social influences has produced a sense of place that is uniquely Provincetown. For over a century, these special qualities have attracted artists, tourists, and bohemians who have then blended with the local population and produced a unique community character. Provincetown is truly like nowhere else. MacMillan Pier is a short walk to all that the Town has to offer, such as retail shops, museums, restaurants, theaters and art galleries.

beautiful the sunset colours as floodlight on the McMillian pier with the seagulls to complete the beautiful and calmly scenery from the port.I like the tranquillity of the place,as the excellent placement of the pier in the frame.

Beautiful warm light, good composition. I feel such peace. I do not like the flying bird. Needlessly crept into the frame.

Hello Tom, This appears to be a very quiet location. The reflectons are excellent to include the sea gulls. Always an perfect time of day to take this kind of picture and you have captured it very well. I really like the golden color that the sun hss provided to the buildings. Great shot. Regards, Roger

Ah! Very good idea to zoom into that golden pier and it's charming reflection! It's a so fine mesmeric sight! and it's good to have included those birds too because not only they are a nice focal point but give depth to the image. Really a magic golden moment you have captured here and you have succeeded in creating several lovely composition all equally meaningful.

This is a very attractive sunset composition with a lovely serene mood to it. The ducks are a charming addition and have the added advantage of giving the image depth. What is most appealing is the play of light along the pier and the lovely reflections in the wet sand,\.

Congratualtions for this excellent managment of light with the dored colors of the pier which arise in the harmony of colors. The water's bird, in the FG, give life nad too depht to the composition. Very nice reflections too.

Fortunately, avian sight is binocular so those gulls can "read the late edition" of the Cape Cod Times at low tide on beach and admire as well with the other eye those lovely reflexions of a golden pier!

Tom,
This is a great shot taken under wonderful low angle lighting. The golden glow on the pier is great creating nice contrast with the surroundings. The birds in the foreground adds nice depth for the scene.

And the gulls seem to have a ball picking food from the seabed...

Hi Tom,
You and we are enjoying this series on foreshore, with the reflections in the wet sand.
This is particularly interesting with the group of seagulls in the foreground enjoying the last rays of sun and the magnificent view over the golden pier in the background. Even, the flying seagull was caught in the fire of the setting sun !
I like the continuation of the golden line, with the newly-lit lamps in the horizon.
