Photographer's Note

Unlike yesterday's shot, which was taken from the Anderson bridge toward the Weeks bridge, I've reversed myself here: this shot was taken standing on the Boston side of the Weeks footbridge, leading from Boston into Harvard Square in Cambridge, facing west, with the Anderson bridge visible along with Harvard's Weld Boathouse. One of the Charles River's most recognizable landmarks, the Weld boathouse was the second boathouse built at this location; the current structure was completed in 1906 and has served as Harvard's main rowing center since.

In this shot, we see the course of the Head of the Charles rowing west past the boathouse and toward the bridge. The small, two person craft at lower left is headed in the other direction. The Head of the Charles race is considered one of the world's most challenging largely because of the two way traffic around sharp curves and under low-visibility bridges like these; this has resulted in many collisions over the years.
