As has been pointed out before, for someone who lives near Boston, I post Boston shots far less than I really should. So, recently I've gotten the sunrise bug and have been getting up at very obscene and early hours to go out shooting.
One of my more recent trips led me to South Boston's harborside area, behind the new Moakley Federal Courthouse (for those of you in the states or who follow American crime stories, this is the courthouse where notorious Boston mobster James 'Whitey' Bulger was recently tried and convicted). The area along the harbor in South Boston was until recently a pretty empty spot, lined with industrial warehouses and empty lots, but it has seen a construction boom in the last decade. This has been both good and bad; it has revitalized an area that was something of a wasteland, but it has also destroyed most of the harborside's beautiful views of downtown Boston. This is the only spot left where you can get a really nice, unobstructed view like this one anymore.

Hi Andrew, At this time of the year, when the nights are the shortest, you must have get up really early. But what a reward. The photo is marvelous. Fantastic panorama of Boston. And how strange, almost all buildings on the right side have the same colour. Excellent shot.

Well getting up at obscene and unearthly hours should be a piece of a cake for you given the young chap in your household!
I'm liking the reflections and this image goes to show that the best light is indeed at the beginning or end of the day (as your sunset shot illustrates). Maybe I would have cropped the shadow of yourself plus tripod out in the lower left but I see why you maybe left it in since it may unbalance the composition slightly.

Great light on this beautiful forest of skyscrapers ! The POV is very good with the quays in the FG and the reflections. The sky is very nice too. Excellent sharpness. Just a shame we can see your shadow on the left ;)

This is no doubt one of your best photos on TE. The light and colors are superb and the view of the city is fascinating. There are so many different kinds of buildings to watch and admire. You have also filled the foreground perfectly with those magnificent reflections and the poles (I don't know what to call them) along the quay, plus of course the ladder at the bottom. Regarding the shadow of yourself, cropping the left side would certainly have ruined the composition, but I suppose some careful clone-stamping could have solved the "problem" (not much of a problem, really).

Great to see you. I have to admit, I'm not here very much myself lately. Just too busy with work and life in general. This is a wonderful shot. Love the city skyline basking in this warm light. A perfect balance in space and composition. Is that a little bit of your shadow with a tripod to the left? I actually like it in there.
I'll be in the area in the fall, first week of October, hoping to catch the fall colors up in Vermont and vicinity and to Acadia NP and down the coast.
If you should have any suggestion what to do or see in this area would love to hear from you.

This is a fabulous morning, absolutely cheering sunshiny image when the low warm light thrown on the highrise buildings and the surroundings with pleasant looking sky and I should say it is a well timed shot along with perfect composition, great colours, lovely detail and gorgeous water reflection. A blissful image, well done, tfs.

I really like the warm sunlight and harbor view in this photo. The golden color and reflections are very nice, and that small ladder in the foreground looks inviting. I can hear it beckoning someone to climb down and take a dip! Hopefully that's not a problem, and people aren't trying to sneak down. :-) The city looks so peaceful and calm at that early hour.

wonderful skyline of Boston! the reflections, lights and colors are great. I did't have idea of how Boston look like and this photo gave a nice perspective. Next year I intend to visit Chicago and maybe I'll add Boston in a future USA travel. I have many friends who lived in Boston because of Harvad University and loved the city.

Lovely shot. The colours and light are really beautiful and I like your idea for the foreground interest.
Have a nice day

Is it easy to get up so early because of baby ... acting like an early morning alarm?
The light is just stunning! It has given a wonderful depth to the colours and just look how it is making star shapes on the windows!
With good lead lines, reflections as intermediates and focal buildings so crisp, this is a fine shot.
My warm regards,
