The beginning of the Freedom Trail at the Boston Common
The 2-1/2 mile Freedom Trail connect a great many colonial. and revolutionary-era sites by red sidewalk bricks or painted red line.
Here the beginning at the Boston Common.
The Freedom Trail in Boston, Massachusetts, was conceived in 1958 by local journalist William Schofield. He had the idea that the historic sites of Boston could be made more accessible to residents and visitors. It begins at the Boston Common and winds its way through downtown Boston, the North End and Charlestown ending at the Bunker Hill Monument. It tells the story of America's first patriots as they fought for freedom against the royal army.
The trail is marked by a red line painted on the sidewalk or, in some places, red brick or granite paving stones mark the way. Following the 2.5-mile trail it is possible visit 16 historic sites.
