Photographer’s Note
This is another of the fully rigged ships at Sail Boston 2009. The lighting is early morning so it is not as detailed as the previous shot of the Mircea. What I find interesting about this one is that it is only 10 years old.
Cisne Branco is a tall ship ship of the Brazilian Navy hailing out of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, though she travels worldwide.
Cisne Branco ("Mute Swan") is a full-rigged ship built in Amsterdam, Netherlands by Damen Shipyard. Her keel was laid on 9 November 1998, launched and christened on 4 August 1999, delivered to Brazilian Navy on 4 February 2000, and commissioned as a Brazilian naval vessel on March 9, 2000.
Cisne Branco made her maiden voyage across the Atlantic Ocean to Brazil, celebrating the 500th anniversary of the discovery of Brazil by the Portuguese Admiral Pedro Álvares Cabral. The ship's project is inspired by the design of the 19th century clippers. Cisne Branco is normally used in national and international representation activities to showcase the Brazilian Navy and Brazilian culture. As well, she is used as an instructional sailing ship by the cadets of the Brazilian Naval Academy, Academy of Merchant Marine, and other naval schools.

Hi Greg,
Great photo to post, Tall Ships in any light look so spectacular.
Amazing it is only 10 years old, also amazing that modern Navies still see these ships as excellent training in seamanship for their sailors and officers.
That's a tight squeeze between bowsprit and waterline.
Nicely shot, a pleasure to look at.

Peter

Hi Greg,
Despite the adverse light and not so favourable POV, you managed to produce an interesting photo, quite effective presenting the ship. I like the compo with the front mast "picking" the corner and covering the building. I think I heard about the voyage of this ship commemorating the 500 anniversary of Cabral's voyage to Brasil (or just passing by, as he was sailing to India), but I didn't know it was newly built.
I am hoping you have something to show with the Portuguese "Sagres" that was on the same dock (I went peeping the site of the event).
Regards,
José

Hello Greg,
The light was not wonderful, which you cannot alter but your pov is superb! I just love how your angle has swept the eyes around the hull, taking in all the details of the rigging and then the long pole (not sure what they call it) from the prow, links the boat so comfortably with the quayside and the watching building. Superb composition.
Have a good w/e,
Bev :-)

Hello, Greg!
It was really a nice event! In this phot I do like the low point of view. It makes the sailship even bigger than it is!
regards,
Greg

Hi Greg,
Missed this beauty. I just marvel at the intricate rigging and the skill need to keep tract of so many moving parts.
Great colors and sharpness.
This was a really fine series my friend.

Hello Greg,
I have never been on board a ship like this, even if we have 3-4 of them in Norway!
I'm impressed by the way they take care of these treasures, and all the rigging tells me sailing in hard weather was hard work...
Excellent details here, the point of view works well to show essentials in the vessel!

Hi Greg,
I missed most of these pictures of Sail boston 2009 being away...
I find this one very intense and well framed. The low pov conveys all the grandeur of both the ship and the building at the right. I like how the white hull occupies most of the photogram and seems to point towards the observer. Also the masts and rigging have a strong visive impact.
Fine and well composed.
Ciao,
Donato
