Photographer’s Note
The photo shows part of the complex that began as the the first chocolate mill in the United States, in 1765. The buildings shown probably came later. The complex was best known as the headquarters for Baker's Chocolate. Before the business shut down in the 1960's, you could drive past these buildings and inhale a rich aroma of chocolate. There was an intense freshness and perfection about this smell, unadulterated by sweetness, bitterness or milk, that surpassed anything you could get from a candy bar.
The water is the Neponset River, which flows between Dorchester (part of Boston) and the Town of Milton.
