[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
the two previous photos from the University of Massachusetts Fine Arts Center I had entitled still [night]life with bicycle and still [night]life with two trees, but just by turning slightly to the right I had this scene in my viewfinder - despite sub-0 (Celsius)tempertures well after midnight students chatting outside the Center after a performance and in no hurry to leave. isn't that the essence of a stundent's life? the time of the day holds no power, the most animated discussions take place around 4 AM, breakfast is set for 2 PM, and the best time to start thinking about assignments for the next day is about 10 PM. loved every minute of it.

I absolutely agree! How could I be so silly to finish my studies on time, I can't forgive myself for not prolonging them as much as possible!
This is a quite an elegant framing, and I love the colours. We usually see the scenes of this kind from a bit closer, with emphasis on the silhouettes, and that's why I like the difference here.

Hi Kristine, nice photo. great exposure and colors. I like how the frame is almost part of the photo. and good choice of the orange line, it matches the colors on the building.
Good photo like usual!!!

Daniel

Hi Kristine,
aside from the most unusual & absolutely elegant framing, this looks to me like an astonishing nightshot. The exposure is PERFECT and the colors are simply awesome!
I made a note of your camera settings, I hope you don't mind, nightshots are something I've never been able to properly manage. There again, I lose my temper after 0.3 seconds, which doesn't really help none to overcome the issue...
Wonderful shot!
Have a great day,
Fulvio.

Hello Kristine

i like lights and SILHOUETTES

Kristine -

This is an excellent shot, with the strong colors seeming to soften but without losing the sharpness of the image overall. I like the diagonals and the way they lead off to the right without carrying it out of the frame - and the frame placed around (which normally I don't like) serves to give it definition.

Your note reminds me of my own student days, when, working in the basement of the computer center, I couldn't have told you whether it was 3 AM or PM - certainly not from the number of other students around!

Regards,
Dan

Hi Kristine
This is a very moody shot and I love the framing - I like very much how you have left large areas of black at the top and at the bottom which have added to this ambiance. Great shot with well controlled exposure.
Best wishes
Mark

Hi Kristine,
A very stylish photo. The repetition in the building with its orange glow perfectly exposed, the silhouettes giving life to the shot, the black bands above and below which seem a vital part of the whole and all topped off with an aesthetic framing. Chris

Hola Kristine,
powerful image of great visual contrast, between the black color and the other colors (red, orange, bluish and green) is fantastic. In addition, the diagonal of the building gives great depth to the image. Excellent the lights.

Salut, Jordi

hey. nicely done, avene. wonderfully moody photo. the overall scale of the structure is well shown. i like the busy-feel the random groups of people bring to the scene. nice work with the framing too.

my compliments and TFS

Hello Kristine

Like the varying light around this place, the colours and layers add an apt dimension..overall a commendable finish..good theme and use of the elements..the message is well potrayed..

Hello Kristine! An after-midnight mood comes along with this one and suits so well your text. I love the black that goes around and that you can just see some of the buildings. I think this shows the hour best possible. Excellent. You know what, I actually have much more energy nowadays than when I went to school ... all these late nights probably, and all these problems that had to be resolved :))))) Barbara.

Hey Kristine,

This is an example of simplicity at its best! A simple study of a subject made interesting through graphic shapes and colours. The essential use of light makes a dramatic effect in this presentation - clean and simple! Some may prefer having it with the 'blue' hour or the first light of dawn, yet this one works very well lol

All the best!

Jom
