it's raining cats and dogs outside right now, so, opening my october folder and looking at this capture was a nice, refreshing flashback for me.

these two greet me on my way to work every morning. of course, their greetings become especially joyful in october (my compliments to the local landscape designers for excellent fall timing here). i was reluctant to show the picture to the broader community due to what i believed was a rather ugly looking building facade in the background. however, today i decided, it was what it was. so, here we go (and for the spirit of that resolution i have to thank my friend fulvio here who might pick on me today for posting another "tree hugging" photo... but didn't i mention already: "it is what it is". :) an excellent introduction to the wild-wild-west in his gallery, by the way).

the reason i have decided to share the picture today is that i believe it to be a good example of the radiance and contrast in new england fall colors. and, i know, some will say these colors are "not natural". to them i can just suggest to pay a visit to new england countryside in october.

technical notes:
the shot was taken late-noon on a very sunny and crispy (chilly, with neither humidity nor haze) day. exposure was read off the sky with -1/3 exposure compensation to preserve the greens. postproduction: practically nothing. slight curves correction, fixing the midtone point and raising the mid-point of highlights almost unnoticeably. this enhanced the blacks a bit and made the whites on the doors slightly more luminous; resized to TE size; and applied unsharp mask (100% with 0.3 pix radius and 2 level treshhold). i wasn't even sure whether i needed that. the picture was sharp enough even after resizing.

would love to hear your thoughts about the scene.

Hello Kristaps,
I love this picture. The colours make it almost an abstract kind of picture. Don't worry about the row of houses in the background. This makes it a realistic picture after all. Congratulations.

Benny

Brilliant photo with great contrasting colors. What kind of trees are they I wonder?

Hello Kristaps,
Nice contrast between the red tree and the blue sky, I like these vivid autumn colors.
Regards

It is the first time that I observe a tree thus, Kristaps.
Good work to capture this image.
Excellent composition, very nice colours, and sharpness.
Regards,
Filipe

Hello Kristaps,
Pas forcément le genre d'endroit pour faire une belle photo... mais tu l'as faite avec des couleurs saturées à souhait, un joli contraste de couleur.
Bravo
JM

Excellent one, buddy.
Both for those absolutely striking, brilliant colors, and for your choice of that fisheye effect that makes it quite different from the average nice & quiet neighborhood-shoot.
I see a picture as a rattler's bite.
It's got to strike you first, after which you'll start considering what just happened...
What I see here fully meets my "requirements", ahaha!
And thanks for mentioning me in your note. I appreciate!
Once again : damn good job!
Later,
Fulvio.

Ola Kristaps,

Regards.
Daniel.

I like it, Kristaps! very pronounced colour contrast between the trees but also with the sky in the best available light, I even like the lens distortion here as it increases the "weight" of the trees.

Cheers
Alexander

PS I see your nickname is a Russian word, can I also sometimes write to you in Russian or better not?:)

While a simple photo of two trees, it really works. Why? Because of the beautiful colours, just absolutely gorgeous. And also because of the shapes of the trees.

Nice shooting of a common scene, into a great photo.

Hello Zmey

Thanks for sharing
Cheers,Braca

Hi kris,

I think the perfect shape of the tree is what attracts me most, it really stands out agains the distorted building and the other tree. of course, the colours help :) love contrast with the deep blue of the sky, and the carpet of leaves on the ground. you have an eye for those red round trees :)
best,
K.

Great colors. The fisheye provides a great perspective but there is an excellent composition.

Hi Kristaps,
Exceptionally clear crisp colors displayed in the capture of brilliant autumn colors against the contrasting green and the complimentary deep blue of this sky. The details are strong with excellent sharpness to this autumn beauty.
Regards, Tom

hello Kristaps,
color contrast at its best and strongest!
also the perfect round shape of the tree helps a lot
regards
didier

Hello Kristaps
What a great contrast between that green tree and the red one on the right. It is like a huge yummy lollipop! Nice vivid colours and details are very good.
good job, well done!
Best regards
Denis!

Dear Zemy,
Wow, excellent colors in this photo. It must be nice to be able to see these trees develop each day you pass them. Thanks for sharing.
Best, Martijn
