moving? hmm, why not take your house with you while you at it? call payne building movers! :)

yesterday, all the roads were blocked on my way to work. i had to take a huge detour. later, during my lunch-break i found out why...

when i saw the scene, i felt as if i wanted to speak like the blind seer in Coen Brothers' "O Brother, Where Art Thou" movie. "I sssaw a hhhouse today!..."

anyway, i felt like sharing this "daily life" street event with the community here. a house on a move... i know photographically, it's not much of a picture: just a documentary snapshot. but i did not have much time. my car was parked illegally and the light was pretty bad too.

i have posted a different view on the same house in he workshopt here.

ps. after having posted this photo, i became interested in the topic and found this site: a nice, step-by-step photo essay on moving a whole theater. it seems, moving houses here is not limited to wood-frame structures... i am impressed.

it's like to live in a camping!
well composed.
ciao, giacomo

Good job, Kristaps.
More than worth a comment and the smiley.
Just like in your previous posting : excellent management of very bad light!
Some people don't seem to overly think of this aspect... I do. They see no sunshine, therefore they see no picture...
But you park illegally out there, step out in the gray and come up with a good shot.
Nice piece of daily life Americana, we never see this type of scene in Europe... as you very well know, of course!
Cool, buddy.
Later,
Fulvio.

Hello Kristaps! This is too much and you must get some extra points for the fun factor :) It is not every day that we can see a house on wheels so I appreciate your upload. Different countries different ways of moving things ... I normally move my table and chairs but why not bringing with me a whole house ... My father-in-law is an architect. Very often when he sees how old buildings are kept alive just because they are old he shakes his head. I kind of like this house here, maybe I would have moved it too. Have a good day, Barbara.

hello Kristaps
good idea
good observation
interesting house

Kristaps, this is a really good shot, not so much beautiful as it is a 100% of the idea of TE (in my opinion anyway) it shows the world, and us locals too, something out of the ordinary. And your shots are done well. Personally I like the angle in the WS because you ca clearly see the improvised track fro the wheels to follow. Anyway, great capture.

Greg

Hi Kristaps,
A rare opportunity to see such an operation. Interesting to see such in the middle of action. And a very nice old house indeed worth preserving. Good framing with that tree on the left.

Belle photo de cette maison que l' on déplace, chez nous on appelle cela un mobil home, je blague bien sur, j' ai toujours été fasciné par ces déplacement de grosse maisons qui sont réalisé au état unis d' Amériques.Belle prise, merci du partage.

Hello Kristaps,

A nice daily life reporting with this house on wheels.
Almost a fairy tale but this is here the reality.
Very well composition and very pleasant for look it!
Nice realisation too. Thanks for sharing.

Have a nice day,
John.

Hi Kristaps,

it's unbelievable for us to see similar scenes, for us a home is something fix and unremovable. We use to connect these views to the US. Well taken with good details.

considering that I change the place of residence (including the country/continent/hemisphere of residence) almost every three years, wouldn't mind one bit a house I could pack with me, could save so much time on rehanging pictures (which reminds me, still haven't done it in NYC). on the other hand - how much would be insurance for moving the house like that? ...

I quite like this documentary shot, it definetly gets people thinking, doesn't it? and the tiny figure of a man is a nice accent and lets the viewer appreciate the scale of the construction.

best,
K.
