nity nite...

halloween is over and it's november, alright. chilly nights, gloomy lights, long shadows, trees have no leaves, streets have no name, rain (when it comes), wind, spooky sounds, midterms & what not...

no wonder, many students (especially the foreign ones) dive deep into depression during this time of the year here. but, hey, there is light at the end of the tunnel, isn't there? (smile)

--

the capture was made close to midnight (tonight) lying low (literally) on one of the sidewalks by the university of massachusetts amherst fine arts center. the library was just around the corner, but i managed a shot with no mid-term victims and no late-night skate-boarders in sight. another night, another shot with them ;)

the umass fine arts center, part of which forms the background of this foto, was designed by a futuristic architect kevin roche (winner of pritzker prize, student of le corbusier) in 1970-s. the lighting and landscaping you see in the foto was done by other designers much later though.

best,
kristaps

ps. postproduction: crop, slight curves adjustment for contrast, slight highlights adjustment, resize to 800 pix, faded gaussian blur + unsharp mask.

the same place shot by avene from a different angle can be seen here. her shot was made during a bit livelier time of the week (hence the bicycle).

Very halloweenish indeed! It would be impressive any other day of the year. Superb work with the light, Kristaps, top shot really!

Hi Kristaps. The light is magical and the colour combinations are eye catching. The trees look as if they are prisoners of some futuristic place, or maybe even exhibits of what once was. A strange but effective shot. Regards. Klaudio.

Wow, Kristaps!
Amazing light, amazing colors, amazing POV.
I think all this pretty much qualifies for an... amazing shot!
This is quite something else!
Thanks for sharing.
Have a great weekend.
Ciao,
Fulvio.

Hi Kristaps
I really like the contrast between the «death trees» and the warm colours. It looks like a Halloween night with those shapes and colours.
Best regards
Denis!

looks like a stage set for some futuristic play, doesn't it? love the saturated orange light and how it contrasts with the cool light illuminating the tree. but I particularly like the strong lines and almost perfec tunnel that leads the eye into the shot towards that bright light, it perfectly fits your note :) great job.
best,
K.

Hi Kristaps,
Wonderful light management brings out the rich golden colors that are beautifully complimented by the pale blue in the background. Very intriguing shadows and silhouettes grace this colorful composition.
Regards, Tom

Very good, Kristaps! Fantastic colours and exposure... what a contrast between the warm / cold colours...

Cheers
Alexander

Very beautiful photo

Hey Kristaps,

Nighty nite...bloody orange it is! I like the glow of its colour, simple, very graphic, I like the silhoutte of that 'sad looking' tree though it looks 'cold' than the rest of the elements surrounding the place.

Cheers!

Jom

Wow very impressive picture with good perspectives!I like this bright orange colour and bald trees which give mystery to the picture.Amazing shot!
Congratulations

Like this photo. Strong hot, red color interrupted with cold blue light behind tree leafless tree, certainly make atmosphere in this shot a bit spooky. nice work

Hi Kris
Very creative and impressive composition. The colors and contrasts are splendid; the sharpness fence's shadows are admirables. Good management about the clarity. Well seen, well done. Best regards, Consuelo

Hi,

Bonjour Kristaps,
deux couleurs qui s'opposent ici, l'arbre à chosi son fond.
Cet amalgame de couleurs chaudes et orangées, avec ces droites et ces perspectives sont agréables pour l'oeil.
Excellente exposition, tout bon cadrage.
Regards.
Daniel.

Hi Kristaps,

very good colors and light managing. I'm surprised by the combination of cool colors in the middle and warm colors around. Perfect POV and composition.

Well done!

Gio

This one is great. I found this picture through Kristine, in her similar photo.
As I said to her, this one describes the place very well, I wouldn't understand how did she take hers.
Great job, both of you

Regards
Stelios

Love this one, because of colors, shapes, lights...everything!

Hi Kristaps,

why my words are not here? I could bet I saw this image before. Well, here I'm to tell you I love this orange tone from midnight. It looks a lonely place at this time. There is a 'sad' graphical apealing...don't know why. I found some interesting info about this color:

While red is associated with fiery heat, orange is associated with the benign warmth of the sun. A dynamic color to be sure, orange offers a more thoughtful control than explosive red. Curiosity is a driving characteristic of orange, and with it comes exploration of new things.
Put some orange in your life when you want:
to spice things up when you feel time is dragging
to become more involved in something
to increase creativity
relief from things becoming too serious
.

Great job!
Cheers,
Carlos
