Photographer’s Note
This is a shot I have been trying to lock in for a while. There was a previous shot that I posted but as well as you all liked it it was ot what I was hoping to get. This one is much closer to the dramatic scene I have seen each time I visited this lovely light in York, Maine.
This was shot the day after the ice storm that left most of Maine and NH without power. You can see the Christmas wreaths on the structures and fence and the cable car to get people to and from the island.

Hello Greg,
A good panorama of a scene I enjoyed myself a few weeks ago. Good colour contrasts with the dark sky, and an interesting view as well with all the details.

Hi Greg,
Stunning image! You made a great and inspired work with the light, colours and the compo using the rocks and the see. I like particularly the dynamic effect to the left for which contribute the FG and also the dark flat cloud just above the horizon. It's also interesting how that cloud can be taken for the sea at first glance and the effect it has making the lighthouse and the houses stand out with that light that despite its warm tones often denounces a cold weather.
The quality of both versions is admirable. It's almost unbelievable how you managed to respect the TE limits on the large version.
Just a suggestion: limit the height to something like 950 pixels or, even better, to 720, because I bet I am not the only one using a display with a vertical resolution of 1050 and many laptops are limited to 768.
Regards, José.

Wow, it is a fantastic view. The sky is so attractive that at first sight I got it wrong. I thought the view was tilted! But a closer view took my eyes to the straight horizon on the right hand side. The colours are superb and the red spots are real eye catchers. Well done.

Hi Greg,
I see you could not help revisiting this unique light house again.
You choose an outstanding day with lovely wispy silver gray sky making a fantastic backdrop for the island house.
Wonderful forground textures that lead gracefully to the beautiful little outpost.

Greg,
Wow, this is a wonderful panoramic view of the lighthouse with all these cute and charming little huts. Beautiful and soft light but rich in tone. Composition is right on. It's so nice even with the small post, the large post is fantastic with details. Thanks

Hi Greg. Great photo. Excellent POV and composition with the FG rocks to add depth and the channel to separate the little island. I love the colours and clarity you have captured also. And a great sky with good texture to cap it all off. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers, Paul.
If I miss you next week, have a great Xmas.

Hello Greg,
A very good shot of lighthouse. I appreciate also the panoramic frame which fits well to the subject with the "flat" island and the piece of horizon in background.
There is also the colors, the brown of the stones in foreground and the ones of the vegetation, autumn dressed, on the island.
Yves.

Hi Greg,
impressions of lighthouses always catch my attention and your composition is very attractive due to the excellent light and the brilliant colors. But most of all I like these interesting clouds created by the storm. TFS!

Hello Greg,
you are giving us a Christmas present with this wonderful panoramic view. So pleasurable to look at, so rich in details and colours. The warm afternoon light doesn't make it look like a winter scene. you post rarely but when you post...

Hello Greg,
very good image with some very pleasant lighting. The sunlight on the lighthouse while the background clouds are so dark gives this an amazing look. This is for me one of the most loveable places in New England, and you caught it in all its beauty. The light on the lighthouse is great with superb sharpness, nice colours and depth of field but the storm in the background makes this image. The large format makes it exceptional. A glorious picture indeed.
With admiration.

greg, this one is a WOW shot! definitely one of your best... perfect composition, perfect light, perfect sky and wonderful colors. by the way, i guess, the size allowed here for the panoramic post is insufficient: the quality of the smaller post is much more polished.

Hello Greg,
The panoramic view seems to give us time to scan it and enjoy every inch.
It is certainly a dramatic image standing proud and majestic, surrounded by a rocky shoreline and crashing waves. The inclusion of the rugged rocks in the f/g increases the feeling of distance and isolation of the lighthouse.
The colours are good and the light ... eerie!
Kind regards,
Bev :-)

hi Greg,
I think this is really, really great. the way you have composed the photo reminds me of 19th century paintings - the strong horizontal format to emphasise the wide open space of the sea, the water colour-like sky, the warm light, the slightly twisted sense of scale that makes the rocks look so much bigger than the lighthouse itself. love it.
best,
Kristine

Hello Greg,
The sky is very special but I also like the colours of the island: with very few vegetation there are a lot of different natural colours. And of course the white and red of the tower and the houses are absolutely splendid.

Hi Greg,
You have every reason to be pleased with this beauty, it really does give a much better sense of the lighthouse. There is something very special about the way the diagonal lines of the clouds and the surf line all draw the eye to the light house. The light is wonderful in both works and the detail is sharp. It is interesting to be able to see the detail of the cable ferry and Christmas decorations in the large post. Also the image doesn't require a lot of vertical scanning to get the sense of the scene.

Hi Greg,
There is a special light upon this one creating a lovely warmth on the little rocky island. The white and red buildings certainly stand out as a focal point and your panoramic format suits the shot well.
Happy 2009!

Incredible colors, the sun is well place for your angle of view, and good action through the waves. That must be quite a show when a storm hits.
Have a good night.

Greg,
This is a fine large post. The lighting is outstanding here providing nice warm colors and good contrast to the dark sky. Your composition is great placing the lighthouse off center and allowing us to see the dramatic landscape and sea.

Greg,
I completely agree with you. The panorama view bathed in this magical view makes it simply great photography. The descentralized placement of the lighthouse and that totally red building is perfect.
Getting back to the same place and trying it with different weather conditions, different light conditions, different angles, different composition gets payed off.

Great light here Greg. At first I thought that the horizon was tilted. But I also said "it's impossible because the lighthouse island is straight"... Then I saw what was misleading me: that giant cloud that diagonally crosses the entire frame. What a detail!!! It's a great photo!

Hi Greg,
Excellently composed panorama. I enjoy the off-center placement of the lighthouse and the context of the surf on the right. This is so natural. There is no feeling of a contrived or formulaic approach to how you've organized things which makes this one a real success. I think there are two post-processing aspects you may benefit from at this stage to get the very most from your strong compositions and the power of that D200 RAW file. One is a noise reduction software tool called Neat Image. It works wonders on skies like this. The other thing is maybe to look at your sharpening work-flow and see if we might enhance your results even more. Can you walk me through what you are doing now as regards sharpening? I think I can offer a tip or two that you will enjoy straight away.
Cheers!

Hello Greg
This is a beauty of a lighthouse, not too many here in NZ, The subtle lighting is just gorgeous with the pano a good choice for this shot. Perfect compo and POV and the waves crashing against the rocks add drama. Prime shot Greg, well done

A brilliant lighthouse scene and when looking at the large version I feel as though I am almost there walking along the rocks. Good lighting and very natural - that is not oversharpened. Tfs, Marlene

Hello Greg,
That's the kind of shot that touch my heart, a beautifull and soft light, a great landscape with complex rocks, the sea and finally lost mans living far away from the world.
