Portlands Head Of The Harbor Lighthouse Photo

Photographer’s Note

Portland's Head of The Harbor Lighthouse on a crystal clear Feb. afternoon. The grounds include ruins of an old fort and incredible view of the outlying islands. I was hoping for a windy day to get some dramatic wave action on the rocks but I had to settle for a lovely clear sky.

Very tempting place . The cool blue water meeting with the rocky shores and the whitewashed lighthouse with the houses are beautifully composed.The clouds add more beauty to this place.I like the sun falling on the lighthouse. Great shot with great colours and clarity . Congrats and TFS !

nice addition to your collection of lighthouse photos :) I like a lot the crisp clarity of the shot, and how the clouds seem to mirror the white-crested waves. the ship on the horizon is a great accent. very well seen and presented, my compliments.

Well Tom this is simply a flawless composition. Good detail in the lighthouse. You have exposed for the highlights and it paid off.

Hello Tom,
The cloud sewn sky brings a great atmosphere to this very fine and well balanced composition. I like the point of view and the inclusion of the waves breaking over the foreground rocks. Excellent colours and clarity.

Hello Tom,
I guess this was a rough place to live for the keeper of the lighthouse, I can almost hear and feel the winter stroms in this exposed place!
But the composition is attractive, so is the subject of course telling the story of times gone by...
Excellent colours and sharp fine details!

Was just thinking, though, that were it my image, I might have applied a small percentage boost with a warming filter to take just a bit of the brightness of the blue skies? Nice work Tom, and TFS. Fantastic lighthouse photo and the clouds are so perfect that it almost looks like you cheated and added them in with Photoshop. A fabulous image with outstanding composition, colors and sharpness. The large freighter on the left is a nice addition and adds some interest to the open sea. Amazing image!

Another great lighthouse shot! Your composition is great placing the lighthouse and buildings on one side of the frame and showing the sea on the other. The lighting and colors are great with excellent sharpness and detail. The small patches of snow on the rocks remind us that it is still winter. The beautiful sky provides a great backdrop for the shot.
