Today is lighthouse day on TE as I also posted one. I like very much your POV, looking from behind into the sea. The ship on the horizon is excellent. You could not have a better moment to photograph the lighthouse. The sky is very pretty and the composition very nice too. Well done.

Hi Tom,

I've visited Portland two summers ago, and I really like your city. Recently, I have seen a photo of this lighthouse in a photography guidebook and I wish to add it to my collection this summer.

To shoot it in the shadow of the house put the emphasis on the light hitting the tower. It stands out beautifully in front of the dark blue sky.

hi Tom,

In the dictionary next to the word blue should be this sky .. the light house is wonderful with it .. as the depth provided by the path .. now for my standard really nitpicky comment .. do you see that little bit of white at the foreground edge of the path .. it distracts me a touch .. I might crop or zap it .. wonderful image.

I really like the contrast of pure white against the saturated blue, it's both cold and summer-like. beautiful texture on the light tower, as in your previous post it reminds of a thick oil painting. very nice work.

the illumination balance is excellent, all the image is perfect written, every part, every details are very very good to see.

Interesting, Tom. I also posted a picture of Portland Head yesterday, but on TL rather than TE. Great minds, you know :)
Anyway, I like both the lovely blue sky, with the clouds, and the angle of your composition. Great POV and good use of the path, too. I took a few similar shots while I was there, but this works especially well in the winter lighting. And you nailed the colors on this one -- they look very true.

Hello Tom,

Lighthouses often make for very interesting subjects. This one is not exception to the rule. The serve as a symbol of the maritime era and continue to be useful with navigation, although less now thanks to GPS systems. I like the bold colour here, especially the royal blue sky. The clouds add that extra drama to the photo that was needed. The ship on the horizon was a lucky capture also and is an important element of the photo even though it is reasonably small; it helps to set the scene.
