Photographer’s Note

Sun setting on Old Oarchard Beach Pier. The Feb. evening find the beach empty. In 6 months the beach will be croweded with July sunbathers.

Tom,
very interesting composition! The placement of the pier off center is perfect and classic, but the placement of the horizon more or less in the middle of the image is unorthodox. It works quite well here although I would have either placed some engaging object in the foreground or cropped the sand considerably. Yet the image is good and attractive.

Hi Tom,
Amazing colour tones with a slight graduation in the sky. The thin dark strip of headland provides a nice border between sky and sea, and then the sun reflected wet beach creates a good transition to the main beach sand. Very nice compo and overall result. Well done.

Hi Tom,
the way you dealt the image is very good and gives a very good perspective too with the dark grey beach in the front.
The light and the colors they come from the back parts, from the sea and the sky work nice together with this beach.
The few houses inside the image are a strong effect.
Have a nice time.

Hello Tom,

This looks like the opening scene from a science fiction movie; the sky has turned red, the sand has turned purple and all the people have gone!

That said, I think it is a fantastic shot!
I don't agree with Peter about clipping the sand. Sometimes you break the rules because you know it works. TRhis is such an occasion!
