This is one in a series of slides taken in a weekend visit to Maine whilst on an extended business trip to New York in the first half of 1986. The slide has recently been digitised and then cleaned up using Photoshop CS2 and Neat Image.

The photograph was taken in the Acadia National Park. I am not sure of the exact location and have no record as to the name of the building in the picture.

Wikipedea has the following information on the Park:

“Acadia National Park preserves much of Mount Desert Island, and associated smaller islands, off the Atlantic coast of Maine. The area includes mountains, an ocean shoreline, woodlands, and lakes. In addition to Mount Desert Island, the park comprises much of the Isle au Haut, a small island to the southwest of Mount Desert Island and parts of Baker Island, also nearby. A portion of Schoodic Peninsula on the mainland is also part of the park. In total, Acadia National Park consists of 30,300 acres (123 km²) on Mount Desert Island, 2,728 acres (11 km²) on Isle au Haut and 2,266 acres (9.2 km²) on the Schoodic Peninsula.

The park was created by President Woodrow Wilson, as Sieur de Monts National Monument on July 8, 1916, administered by the National Park Service. On February 26, 1919, it became a national park, with the name Lafayette National Park in honor of the Marquis de Lafayette, an influential French supporter of the American Revolution. The park's name was changed to Acadia National Park on January 19, 1929.

From 1915 to 1933, the wealthy philanthropist John D. Rockefeller, Junior, financed, designed, and directed the construction of an extensive network of carriage trails throughout the park. The network encompassed over 50 miles of gravel carriage trails, 17 granite bridges, and two gate lodges, almost all of which are still maintained and in use today.

On October 17, 1947, 10,000 acres (40 km²) of Acadia National Park burned in a fire that had begun on the mainland in a cranberry bog. The forest fire was one of a series of fires that consumed much of Maine's forest as a result of a dry year. The fire burned for days and was fought by the Coast Guard, Army, Navy, local residents, and National Park Service Employees from around the country. Restoration of the park was supported, substantially, by the Rockefeller family, particularly John D. Rockefeller, Junior. Regrowth was mostly allowed to occur naturally and the fire has been suggested to have actually enhanced the beauty of the park, adding diversity to tree populations and depth to its scenery.

Acadia National Park is the only national park in New England.”

Beautiful and spectacular setting for a house. The views from up there must be amazing during sunsets and sunrises. Your picture is very nice and the perspective of the place is good. Colours and sharpness are nice as well. Thanks for sharing Stephen.

Roberto

Hi Stephen

A fantastic seascape, but with a slight blue color cast. I may try a ws later. Good sharpness and a superb, expansive view. Tfs!

Hello Stephen

Very well done.
Amitiés.
Philippe

Hello Stephen,
The initial argentic shot was surely perfect and this one so, but a slight blue hue. it is a great perspective and seascape.
Bravo

un beau paysage que tu nous montres ici avec une dominante de bleue non désagréable bien au contraire
on voit le moindre détail des vagues qui viennent taper contre les rochers et il est certain que celui qui vit dans cette maison est privilégié non?
tres belle composition
juliette

blue and white as the colours of the ocean. Around an island. It was a great shot then and is a now a great scan result. Twice great leads to? -> Wonderful capture. Thanks for that.

Hi Stephen,
Lovely seaside landscape with the beautiful surf ponding on the rugged granite shores of Mount Desert. This house is located near the foot of Bar Harbor not far from Sand Beach and Beehive Mt.
Regards, Tom

Wow Stephen,
Hard to believe this came from a slide that was from the 80's. It looks great. The image is lovely and clear and the colours are nice too. It almost appears like a painting.
cheers,
Debbie

I like the colours in this Stephen, lots of blues and greys. Good compositionally too, and lots of interest in the shot.
TFS. Leon.

A dream-like painting with my favourite blue-colour everywhere. I would have sweared it was not from a slide. Since the last time i visited you have sky-rocketed your points, but you fully-deserve so as you have nice themes and good skills in photography.

Superb Stephen. Almost looks unreal with all the similar tones. Must be the slide. Really nicew though.

Hello Stephen,
Looks like a dreamland.
Those waves crushing on the shores of the island, the fir trees, that building in the middle of all this natural beauty, the deep blue of the waters, the silhouettes of those mountains in the distance -- all come together to turn this setting into sheer beauty. Thanks for taking the trouble to scan this shot and share it with us. Was not familiar with Acadia National Park. Thanks for the note as well -- interesting that Rockefeller invested in this place.
