Most of my new posts in the upcoming months will be of the little village of abandoned beach cottages in Connecticut. So I apologize in advance for playing the same song again, they will most likely be razed this year which creates my urgency to document what will soon be gone. I find myself drawn to the place...to be there and capture the experience of seeing all of the things that once were. When you walk into one of the cottages, your mind envisions all of the disarray gone and people just coming inside to take a shower after swimming in the ocean.
This chair...sitting upright. These windows...unbroken...the broken shards of glass replaced by some sandy footprints. I can picture it all. That feeling of a summer afternoon spent talking to friends on the front porch....maybe getting ready to cook some dinner on the grill. It's all there even now... after everyone has left....you just need to look.
Edited:
This is the least processing I've done to a photo in a long time. (score one for purity!) After converting from RAW, I realized I liked the B-n-W treatment better, so had to desaturate in PS...otherwise, I would have converted to B-n-W while still in RAW. Just did some dodging and burning and a little bit of curves to adjust contrast. |

Hi Jeffrey
I really like your black and white approach of this abandoned village. it has a Jeff Brouws kind of atmosphere. This particular image is surreal yet speaks a thousand words. Your composition with the shadow is very skillfull.
Congratulations
Emmanuel
Jeffrey,
Good shot - and good series with these abandoned houses - great subject for black and white.
This one's particularly good I think.
Regards
Colin
