Remember the ISO

Taken this morning. There is a great stretch of beach I live across the street from. It is uninterrupted for a few miles except for a few jetties. It's a very popular spot for people to jog and walk in the morning.
I've named this shot because for some reason (I blame lack of sleep and caffeine) I forgot all about ISO for the entire hour I was taking shots this morning. The last time I set the ISO was snapping pics inside, at night, with no flash, so you can imagine that almost my entire batch of photos from this morning were basically ruined. This photo I felt was OK enough to post, since today I was really focusing on my framing and composition. Unfortunately, it's so noisy that it's not very sharp....the 30 mph wind didn't help much either.... |

Hi Jeffrey, reading your title and your note make me laugh cause it happens at least once to each photo shooter ;) It happened to me while traveling in mexico and i was so disgusted when i realized it ... i never did the mistake again.
Now on your picture, i see you have all the required equipment to produce interesting picture and if you like landscape and beach picture like that, i would recommand you wait for what we call the blue hour, ie the moment of the day where sun is just disapearing. Then close the aperture at around F16 or more and then you can manage to lower shutter speed and that will produce smooth aspect in sea under a beautiful dark blue sky.
Keep on and keep training

Hi Jeffrey
I don't see much evidence of noise here. I'm not sure what ISO you were at. I have just picked up a program called Neat Image. You can download a demo version and it's easy to use. It will also install as a plug in to PS or Elements. It does a great job of cleaning up artifacts, noise and pixelation blotchiness. I like this composition a lot. You have captured some nice light on the rocks and sand.
