Lake Shore Evening

Echo Lake
Moose Lake State Park - Minnesota

A second image from our evening walking and relaxing by the shore of Echo Lake in Moose Lake State Park.

A bit of a photographic woops here .. I had my two stop graduated neutral density filter on the camera .. I have just had this filter for a little while .. when I was shooting I was not even thinking of the fact that turning the camera for a vertical shot would turn the filter as well .. I think I lucked out with the fact that the right end of the frame was full of all that dark foliage to act as a bit of balance ..

About Moose Lake State Park from:
http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/moose_lake/index.html

Rolling hills surrounded by fields, woods, ponds and fishing lakes make this park popular for hikers, anglers, canoeists, swimmers and campers. Quiet Echo Lake is ideal for catching bass, northerns and panfish. The Willard Munger Trail is located two miles west of the park. The trail stretches for 60 miles from Hinckley to west Duluth.

The park is a mix of fields, woods, woodland wildlife ponds, and fishing lakes. Wooded areas of the park contain mature aspen stands mixed with basswood, birch, and maple trees.

Hi John,
nice place you moved to! I think there´s no problem with turning the filter, it´s simply a beuatiful photo filled with light and colour.
Regards, Johannes

Hi John...

Very peaceful and quietly shot. The sunrays throught the leaves are extraordinay, and the blue water gives a perfect contrast with the dark area at the right! I find very nice the blue gradiant in the pic! It's very nice thing to come back to TE and find again your gallery and your photos! Thanks, and congratulations!

Angel.

Hi John,
A double sun ... nice capture and great POV. I like the symmetry of the composition created by the reflections and the contrasts. Well captured and composed with very good image quality. The vertical format was the best choice to present the scene. Well done! tfs
Cheers,
Renier

John,
I love how you catch the sun coming through the tree and than reflecting it on the lake. Beautiful and serene atmosphere. Peaceful and very charming. The green leaves a nicely illuminated by the backlighting. Good composition, good sharpness and clarity. Simply beautiful and lovely place. Well captured atmosphere. Thanks

Hi John,
You should have said you planned this effect of the trees balancing the difficult light. They really do manage the light and absorb the bright light.
Very pleasing vertical compostion with great balance to the green, blue and yellow colors.
Regards, Tom

Hello John,

I like the composition, the light management, reflections and that sun just shining shyly through the foliage.

Regards, René

Ji John,
Nice vertical shot with this lovely water mirror, beautiful tone also, good detail with the sun through these tress.

A good landscape - nice range of tones throughout from dark to light. I like the sun peeping through the trees. Good color work, too.
Cheers,
Dave

John,
Excellent composition and POV here using the tree to filter the sun allowing you to capture this great backlit scene. The lighting and colors are great with excellent sharpness and DOF. The reflection is great and provides nice depth and balance to the shot.
TFS,
Asa

Hi John. Looks like a peaceful and relaxing place to spend some time. Calm water and reflected forest enhance the impression. Nice colours and the sunlight streaming through the tree are highlights. Well composed and thanks for sharing.
Have a good week, Paul.

A very good lucky stroke then ;)

Hello john
