Happy Lake Superior Day
Lake Superior from Park Point Beach
Duluth, Minnesota
ISO 50

Lake Superior Day is the third Sunday of july and is a celebration of the world's largest and one of its cleanest freshwater lake.

Picnics, beach clean-ups, library displays, kite flying, concerts, hikes, an essay contest, and government proclamations are all part of the day’s celebration to bring attention to this huge body of water that holds 10 percent of Earth’s fresh water. Events are planned all around the lake.

The annual event takes place on the third Sunday of July, and is sponsored by the Lake Superior Binational Forum, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and Environment Canada.

This image was shot from Park Point Recreation area. Park Point is a miles long sand bar that juts out into Lake Superior. The recreation area has beautiful sandy beaches. On this particular evening Andrew and I had set out to hike a riverside trail only to find it was closed so instead we drove back into the city and hung out at the beach for sunset.

Wow John
Very simple, nothing distracting. We just need to gauge the capture, and take in the blending and softness this capture has. Very subtle colours, very very dreamy place.
Well done
Jim

Hi John,
Interesting hazy effect ... the clouds look very dynamic. Good depth and wonderfully captured. Well done! tfs
Cheers,
Renier

Hi John,
Minimalism can rhyme with grandiosity? Of course it does, just take a look of this photo! It's so inspiring and inspired, so well managed technically!... Awesome!
Bravo! It's really impressing!
Regards, José.

Hi John!

Fantastic lake, excellent "empty" landscape photography! I think that much of the photo's power lies exactly in its "emptyness" that leaves the eye to wander without any obstacles! Of course, the colours are fabulous and the thin mist enhances the atmoshere! Congratulations!

I wish all the best to you and your family,
Hercules

Hi John,
What a lovely collection of mist shrouded colors seen over this vast lake on such a still evening. Very soothing image to celebrate Lake Superior Day. These conditions are the excat oppoiste of those in Nov 1975 when the Edmund Fitzgerald went down, any way this is a supper summer image.
Regards, Tom
