The left fielder for North Greenville University is making a great attempt at cathing the fly ball, but he was not able to catch it.

The National Club Baseball Association expanded this year to include smaller and less-experienced college teams and called it Division 2. The first-ever NCBA Division II World Series was played in May, 2008 in Huntingburg, Indiana and hosted 8 teams: North Greenville, Wyoming, Kentucky, Illinois, Southern Illinois, Lone Star, New York University and Virginia Commonwealth. Kentucky went away as champions.

The stadium used for the tournament was the location for a lot of the filming of the movie "A League Of Their Own". As you may recall it was about the womens' league that played in the midwest between 1944 and 1954 and starred Gina Davis, Madonna, Tom Hanks and Rosie O'Donnell. Today the stadium looks just as it did in the movie, complete with "Rockford Peaches" signs all over the place and 1940's era advertising within the ball park.

A 2x teleconverter was used with the 400mm 2.8 lens for this shot. Only cropping was a little bit off the top and bottom. Because I lose 2 stops with the 2x converter I increase the ISO speed to 400 when I normally shoot in daylight at ISO 200. That way I end up losing only 1 stop and I can live with that.

Great shot Greg and well UNDERAPPRECIATED (trust me, I know the feeling).

Excellent timing, you captured all the action including the ball in mid air, the awkward looking placement of the foot supporting the player. The dark background and DOF help to seperate the subject from the background nicely.

Well done!

Greetings, Greg -
Wonderful action shot. The position of his bent legs, his upper body half-turned, and the expression on his face make this a singular moment of energy. Very sharp considering the distance and movement. Nice work.

Hi Gregory,
May be he did'nt caught the ball, but you caught him well! :)
