I took this picture of Assembly Hall as the sun was setting behind it. I thought the grass lit in front of the picture gave it a cool effect.

Many people think this building looks like some sort of space ship right out of Close Encounters With the Third Kind.

Built in 1963 and designed by Max Abramovitz, the $8.7M building is one of the world’s largest edge-supported structures. Although it’s well-known that Assembly Hall hosts the Fighting Illini men’s and women’s basketball teams, bands such as The Rolling Stones, Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, and U2 have also played shows there, making it one of the premiere concert venues on campus.
