After recent photo of Ann(annjackman)from Chicago I had to go back with my memories to my US trip:)to find out if I have maybe some more photos of the iconic "L" train.
I´ve found this one, taken somewhere within the Loop area(I don´t remember exactly where).I couldn´t decide which version I like more,so in WS you can see B&W version of it.Let me know which one do you prefer.
I processed the image in Photomatix.I hope it´s not too many HDr´s in my gallery lately:)

love this! An image full of drama and such a superbly timed and composed shot that is just irresistible. The Photomatix processing here is inspired as the result is full of exquisite light and makes it all the more moody and atmospheric. You are one of the masters of HDR on this site and this is a flawless testament to your skill. A stunner!
Have to say I prefer the colour version it has more impact and power I think. All about taste really I suppose. Either way it is a cracker of an image.
Have a good weekend - B.

bardzo urbanistyczna ta scena i w zuplenie innym typie niz poprzednie zdjecie.
Podoba mi sie punkt widzenia, ktory determinuje cala kompozycje. Jadacy pociag dodaje dynamiki calosci.

Stunning capture, great detail and depth. Great light management.

Hi Krzysztof - I like both images, do I have a preference? Perhaps the colour version because the colours are soft and dirty giving an industrial grimy mood to the image. I think with the scaffolding and rails the mood is enhanced. I like your timing, the train just rounding the corner adds enormously to the composition. If it had been caught 'head-on' I don't think the sense of movement would have been so good. Super. Warm regards Rosemary

Very interesting and attractive urban & architecture & transportation picture!
Sharpness, exposure, colors, horizontal format, chosen pov and composition are all excellent!
TFS - congrats,

very nice and unusual city shot from chicago here.love the set up and the lighting conditions.

Hi Krzysztof - There's something fascinating and unique about the coloration of this shot - very rich and dark in a way you don't often see. It really enhances the gritty, urban side of Chicago well, as does the central focus on both the train tracks and the construction scaffolding off to the side. A great angle too, which shows us the approach of the train. Thanks!

Ciao e buon fine settimana
ikeharel (73549) 2014-02-21 7:42
Inspite of the harsh light conditions, I prefer the colors verssion, Krzysztof.
The incoming train added the dynamic effect over the tracks, and I find the picture vibrant and alive altogether.
Even the scaffolds on right, play a nice part of the urban scene.
Impressive, fine clear details and good contrast, all culminate to a wonderful(you had hiden somewhere)picture.

Another spectacular HDR and you know how is like this kind of PP ! Absolutely beautiful, what a very rich composition, what a lights and what a colors, all under this gray sky,a big standing ovation to you! Have a nice weekend,Luciano

this is a superbly composed and framed view of an urban scape that's very busy and fascinating. You captured the scene with great timing, the train is placed excellently and adds meaning to the intricate setting. I like very much the sharpness, the moody colours and the lighting that make this look like a setting in a dark comic. There's a kind of haze or smog in the background that distracts a little, in my opinion. This is why I think I prefer the b&w version which seems more graphical and its intricate patterns are even more mesmerizing. Congratulations on your work on both versions and thank you!
All the best, have a great weekend.

Your city shots are always fantastic and a pleasure to view, and this one leaves me in awe. I like the strong perspective created by all the linear elements and enhanced by the crispness of your image. The rail tracks, the buildings and the scaffolding give it a wonderful graphic quality. Good timing to catch the train coming. Your viewpoint is great. I like the HDR treatment you applied on this image, it really adds charm and atmosphere. Well done.

Wow, where have you been hiding this beauty. Excellently taken urban scene. Many things to enjoy in this one. A well thougth composition with splendid lighting and colours. The gray sky is gray enough to make a fine contrast. The red and blue buildings has a great impact on this fabulous scene.
Excellent work my friend!
Have a nice WE.
Best regards, Erling

Krzysztof Witaj, great view of the city at the height of the elevated train, very well composed and perfectly captured in this interesting photo. A nice picture of an interesting place with good sharpness, depth and quality. An excellent job perfectly done, congratulations my friend. Thanks for sharing.
Good night and happy weekend.
Warm greetings from southern Spain.

Bardzo dobrze skomponowane, graficznie piekne zdjecie. Podobaja mi sie te wszystkie linie - pionowe, poziome i poprzeczne. Bardzo pasuja do tematu, bo przeciez pociagi i tory to "lines in the landscapes". :)
Pozdrawiam serdecznie i zycze milego weekendu

I prefer the color version, it is bursting with life which is incredible seeing as there is actual live present! The colors are vibrant and the light is amazing, which I don't think is caught as much in the black and white version. While the black and white is beautiful, it's a bit dystopian while the color verse just seems like a particularly special capture of a moment of our time. Thanks for posting the workshop,it's fascinating to see the comparison.
Thanks as always.
mirosu (16273) 2014-02-21 19:52
Excellent perspective, superb arrangement with train approaching between high buildings. Nice light, excellent deep DOF. The tight framing is perfect.
Very well done
Wish you a very nice weekend.
annjackman (21899) 2014-02-22 2:25
This is quite a different view to my recent post and very interesting to see it. The HDR effect is not overdone and adds excellent depth to the picture. I love the way that the train is emerging around the corner. This works very well in colour.
Kind Regards, Ann
BennyV (18083) 2014-02-22 2:40
Great urban scene with fine sharpness, resulting in lots of great little details. Grey tone of the sky adds to the atmosphere here, and position of the train is perfect.
Have a fine weekend, Krysztof.

Brawo!

I jeszcze to. Tu HDR OK :).
Pozdrawiam wiosennie M.

Excellent done, the black and white picture as second image.
But I like your colour version with the different colours of the skyscrapers.
Also the railway together with the train fits excellent on these picture.
Sharpness and clarity make these picture attractive.
Excellent perspective and depth picture.
Wonderful composition, nice presentation.
Very we done, TFS.
Have a nice Sunday,

You really are getting some mileage out of that ultra modern concrete jungle. It's dynamic with lovely colours and contrast which also exaggerates the proportions seen from good viewpoint where depth and perspective are accentuated by the convergence with nice effect. Excellent shot, Congrats.

I've been to Chicago once long time ago but I heard so much about the L trains. Nice representation of the city with good lighting and sharp details. Well done, tfs.
jcpix (13930) 2014-02-23 9:35
How are you my friend? Keeping yourself busy with that new lens I hope. :) Tough call here, I like both versions. The black & white has more grit, but it's hard to deny the powerful red color from this main post. It's not bright and bold, but just enough to make it a gripping feature of this shot.
Usually scaffolding is nothing but a nuisance for photography, but you've made it count when it needed to. Would have been easy to eliminate it from this composition, but I think it adds the necessary urban element to complete this visual and real life side of the downtown area. HDR works great here, enhancing the strong texture and sleek rail lines. We get a good sense of the elevation as well with the small visible street portion along the bottom of the frame...good idea to have included it for height.
As far as I'm concerned, with your smooth execution of HDR, you can't have too many in your gallery. :) Hope you've had an enjoyable weekend. Take it easy.
Cheers from the Wild West,

Yes, you certainly have been posting alot of hdr photos lately! Nothing wrong with that of course :)
But i have to be honest, i dont think this is one of your better ones.
in terms of quality i mean...i love the subject and pov, those are great.
Its that darn sky again.
It happens in alot of my hdr photos too, so i can pick it up right away, as with the bright light on the building to the left.
The lighting in the sky isnt balanced, and the light on the left is burnt out because of the hdr processing. I'm sure you see it too.
hdr can be very tricky at times!
I'm now at the point where if i see bright light on a subject i dont even attempt it in hdr....its too easy for it to be burnt out in bright whites.
as for the sky....that can be corrected by using the sliders to make the sky more bright and evenly balanced.
But its still tricky!!!!
I know i'm being overly criticle, i hope you dont mind, and i'm certainly not trying to
Be mean :)
Keep your hdr shots coming! They're always welcome!

I cannot make a choice, I like both. I like the B&W for you showed Chicago in its classic appeal. With the processed image in Photomatix, you again rendered the image a delight to the eyes, just like in your previous works...and one last, nice composition, perfect timing!
subhendu_bagchi (26089) 2014-02-24 1:16
a very good composition here with the train in move. Like those curved tracks which added here nice graphism. The life and architectures behind this view is also superb and captured with a great depth. Superb work. Tfs.
danos (99816) 2014-02-24 2:44
very nice the panoramic view of Chicago loop that is taken place over the strees of the town.I like the creative perspective, the light and the colour management with the coming train to be a bonus to the composition.
delpeoples (58804) 2014-02-28 17:23
I can see why you posted the colour version and I like it a lot, although you know my views on HDR :) It's a cracking photo in every respect. It has a superb POV, has fantastic perspective and incredible sharpness. If forced to choose, I think I'd choose the B&W but that's probably because I love B&W :)
Cheers and happy weekend
PaulVDV (29809) 2014-03-01 10:42
Although I generally like more colour versions, here I have a little preference for your black & white picture. Difficult to tell exactly why but it has something to do with the sky which is already grey on your main picture.
The oncoming train in the curve is a good addition in this composition with mostly vertical and diagonal lines.
Perfect sharpness, excellent depth.
Best regards, Paul

Ciao Krzysztof, fantastic urban view, excellent perspecytive, wonderful colors and splendid light, very well done my friend, ciao Silvio

I like this! A really good photo of a big city. The train seems so small here, passing through the high buildings. So much concrete and still buildings under construction. A good HDR!
It's hard to decide, I like both!
kwekwekan (1078) 2014-03-24 12:26
I like the HDR version a lot better. Sometimes I find HDR images overly done and not always appropriate for the subject at hand. Neither apply here, rather the post-processing really enhances the post-industrial feel of the city. Well done on a fantastic urban-scape.
