Yesterday afternoon I enjoyed a three-hour romp in the white cedar swamp at our local nature preserve. In addition to the "winter wonderland" effect that goes along with the seventh-snowiest December on record for northeast Wisconsin, I saw a great many cross-country skiers like these out relaxing in the snow, some alone; others in families.

For those who love winter, it's been a great way to wrap up 2007 -- after a string of mild winters and mutterings of global warming, this is vintage Wisconsin.

P.S. -- Don't be fooled by the seemingly low level of snow on the ski tracks -- one step off and you can be over your boot tops.

Hello Jim. I have to say what a wonderful zoom capture of this couple cross -country skiing together. Good work and Happy New Year to you!

Hi Jim
Very nice winter photo!Great colours and composition, well done.
TFS/Regards

I like the way you have captured these people who are nice and sharp compared with the BG that is soft and muted. Obviously the pathway creates a strong leading line.
Well done.
Phil

Hi Jim,
Excellent portrait of these anti couch potatoes declaring winter does not suck. They are seen with clear evidence of the joy of getting out in the quiet woodlands in winters frozen Eden. Very clear colors with excellent details and sharpness. This was my favorite winter activity which has been interrupted due to complications to knee surgery which with luck I may be able to continue next winter.
Regards, Tom

Hi Jim,
This looks cold and hard work to me :) Wonderfully captured and composed. Good contrast and depth. Well done! tfs
