Last Farm at First Light

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
One farm still stands in an area that was once all farms, including our own house, which was built on subdivided farmland about 20 years ago. Gas stations and groceries stores, houses and schools and highways are all nearby.
But two brothers, though starting to get along in years, continue to coax crops from the land, here in the midst of town. There's a certain comfort and satisfaction in seeing them carry on for the love of the land and the work, when they could sell out to commercial developers and, in all likelihood, become overnight millionaires.
My intent, in sharing this image, is to give you a very authentic look at what, in our area at least, is a way of life rapidly fading into history.
Note on technique: I stitched four images together using HP Image Zone software. Then I turned to The Gimp and added an alpha layer and the larger color background in order to get the proportions right for uploading here. This early morning image, in my view, shows the farm in a very warm and favorable light -- which is why I chose the time of day.

P.S. -- I'm interested in how others retain quality when making the larger versions fit. I had to trade off a bit more JPEQ quality than I'd have wished to get down to the 400K threshold. |

Hello Jim,
Thank you for your critique of my photo of the two mountain men. You have an excellent panoramic shot of your family farm. What part of the midwest do you live in? When I see images of the dying family farms I always here the old Joni Mitchell song in my head: "You don't know what youv'e got till' it's gone". Hopefully your brothers wiil stay the course. Thanks for sharing.
Stan
Good composition and nice colors. Even when viewed at large size, the photo is sharp. Good original framing with color to match the actual photo also. Nice work.
