Photographer’s Note

The next step on my weekend tour was McClintock Falls, in a park bearing the same name, about 15 miles west of Amberg, Wis., on the Peshtigo River.

In truth, the designation "falls" may be a bit hopeful on the part of the good tourism folks at Marinette County: As they admit, "This waterfall is a series of rapids with bridges for exceptional views."

It is quite true, however, that the bridges offer exceptional views and the park is a picturesque place. It calls to mind the kind of place Longfellow may have imagined when he wrote of "the murmuring pines and the hemlocks" in "The Song of Hiawatha."
