Hello John: Rural photos with an Americana theme always catch my eye and you have done a great job with this one, but there are two other reasons for me to like this photo: First of all, my last name is Wagner; plus, I have been to Wagner, S.D....but at a warmer time of year. You have made a great case for RAW as well. Nice composition and you have captured the idea of "cold" very well.

That frost on the tree is just awesome and this is a perfectly composed and framed shot. Wonderful light, excellent contrast and I want to say great colors, but... there are not many of them. :)) I really do like that pale blue tone. Wonderful shot! Thanks and warmest regards,

The rural setting with the fresh coat of snow, the long shadows of the tree branches, and esp your subject--the barn with the leading line of the road. Nicely seen and rendered.

Hi John, a very excellent shot with the pastel blues of winter. The lighting on this is fabulous (so I'm happy you shot in RAW too). The composition is very good with your tree anchoring the left side, giving full view into the old barn and windmill. Your sharpening process is very good, that fence is awesome, running along the snow rutted road. Great presentation.

an other of those fantastic midwest winter images, you can allmost feel the frost bite in your chins and the smell of sharp snow and hear the specific sound of chrunch under your feet.

I don't if there was some mist, but the ambiance is well frost.
+ 2 EV is ok for the snow luminosity.
But I have done a WS just for an interesting experience.

The winter landscape in sunlight is always a pleasure to watch, the composition is well balanced with the road as a good dividing diagonal...
The trees in front add a nice feeling of depth to the scenery!

I love this light, you had a great home drive across these regions.
We can see here in a difficult sky color situation the earthy part is very good to pick out.
The tree on the left and the house are very good placed in the image.

Hello John,

A first class photograph of the bucolic countryside in South Dakota. Unhappily, I've never been there, although i've driven through Wyoming, Colorado and Utah in the same general area. The silvery colors of the snow and ice, with sunlight coming striking from a low angle makes this a genuinely compelling photograph. Warm regards and have a good weekend,

That's what we miss here - winter! We haven't had winter at all this year. Your picture gives the impression of cold an clear air. The "silhouetted" trees are a beautiful addition to the scenery. I would like to step into the picture ... ;-)

A superb winter image..I read about your 'mistake' about the exposure, & I didn't know you can retrieve such situations from RAW. Whatever it was, the picture is simply marvellous, compo.wise excellent with the diagonal road in the centre & the lone house balancing the frosty tree on the left. Only the sky is a bit bleak, nothing you could do about it..but this is a great scene, so well picturised.

This is an awesome winter landscape. The barn is well placed on the right to create good balance with the tree. The frsted landscape is attractive but cold. Soon I think winter will be over and Spring will let us see a different view. Good work with the sharpness and soft colours. Thanks John.

what a contrast to winter in California. It looks frigid and not inviting at all! ;-)
Your composition with the shrub at the left, the diagonal incoming road and finally the house in the background is extremely good.

a lovely rural landscape well composed under the snow... great light and textures, I like very much the tree...Dakota always makes me think of the Coen Brothers, the film Fargo...and the immense plains of the Natives...good note too:-). I have started shooting in Raw too, a few days ago.

I hesitate to comment on this one right now because I am violently sick of winter today, but I really do find it a very beautiful (albeit cold)image. Lovely colours and light.
