Harvest Home

Corn field
North of Lake Mitchell
Mitchell, South Dakota

I made a quick trip home to bring my daughters back to see my grandmother this holiday weekend. It has reaffirmed my belief that spending 20 hours in the car with two little girls over a four day weekend is a quick way to completely reprogram your brain.

I made it a point to try to get out on the old gravel farm roads around town to try to capture some typical rural scenes. This sunset over the corn really struck me so I thought I would post it.

I came home to find my computer sacked .. I have a new one arriving hopefully next week .. so I edited this on my laptop ...

This is a crop not a stitch .. that combined with how it mostly about color not detail caused me not to spend one of my large posts on it.

"Harvest Home"

Who saw the fences falling
Who broke the ploughman's bread
Who heard the winter calling
Who wore the tailors thread
How many sheaves were counted
How did the carriage shine
How many thoughts were doubted
How did the landlord dine

Just as you sow you shall reap
Just as you sow you shall reap

Who lead the Mayday feasting
Who saw the harvest home
Who left the future wasting
Who watched the families go
See where the bowls are empty
See where the arms reach
See where the butter melted
See where the alters creak

Just as you sow you shall reap
Just as you sow you shall reap

Where were the days of promise
Where were the gifts divine
Where were the heroes honest
Where was the summer wine
Watch how the waves must shatter
Watch how the shore divides
Watch how the nets will tatter
Watch Canute and his bride

Just as you sow you shall reap
Just as you sow you shall reap
In harvest home
In harvest home

Hello John,

The sky seems as if it is made from lava. The FG is well placed and I like the long dimensions of the frame. Well positioned. The image has great contrasts, very vivid. Very simple, but gets the message across. I love it.

Hi John,
Beautiful poem to go along with this striking late summer landscape. The rich golden color over the silhouetted corn has a very haunting feel of another summer gone by. Sorry to hear about your computer. I keep 2 hard drives in mine and ghost the main one to the secondary about every 2 months. I hope this did not effect your archives.
Regards, Tom

Hi John,

Amazing shot with such intense colours and the many layers of clouds! I love the grass blowing in the wind which is also a beautiful silhouette against the beautiful sky. Fantastic work, John!

Hello John,

This is a fabulous TE package — a spectacular photo, augmented with one of the most engaging notes I've seen on TE. I would not have guessed that it was not a stitched set of images. Warm regards,

Bulent

Hello John.
Very beautiful. I like the heavy crop. It emphasises the horizon of corn against that wonderful sky. I know what you mean about computer problems. I'm only just back online after mine crashed a week ago. Much to catch up on. Well done my friend.
Best regards, Steve.

John,
Hardly saturated colors and huge contrasts are very pleasant to my eyes.
I like a lot your choice for the pano format.
Regards,
JB.

Hi John,
Very good captured and composition! Excellent colours, lovely light and sky!
Have a nice day.

John, ce ciel incandescent avec en premier plan des roseaux en contre-jour, tout cela fait une photo extraordinairement belle.
Jacques

A very impressive sky color, and the strong light is really piercing thogh the clouds. The cropping reinforces the emphasis on the sky and is a good idea.

All the best,

Emmanuel

This is on fire John. The view is very interesting here but initially I thought I was looking at a reflection on the water. Good colours and composition. Sorry to hear about your computer. Thanks John.

Roberto

Haven't been to your area of TE in awhile, and as I looked at some of your recent post, this just jumped out. Fire in the sky, what a dramatic photo. Your love of nature really shows through on your gallery. Have fun with your adventures and will keep an eye out. Rodney

Spectacular sunset colors, John. The cronfield makes an interesting and unique slhouette pattern.
Larry

Hi John,
sorry to hear about your computer and I can only imagine the car ride you had! :o) The color in this photo is so well worth it though! Beautiful, and I really like the textures in the grasses...TFS
